However I might be able to find brocade purple and white/silver lace fabric and cover it over a dark navy fabric to get the same effect so long at the base lace is sheer. I'll be hunting Toronto after AN to see what I can find and probably need to adding beading to the two layers as a way of pinning the fabric together, epically with the amount of fabric in the shirt.
I would give King Textiles a try. I wasn't really that impressed with much of their upstairs stock but the downstairs is all clearance and I picked up some nice brocades for La Carlotta there at a reasonable price.

I wonder if their new location has a downstairs. In the old build it looked like that section was off limits Employes only. O_o

So, it occurred to me that most of the work on my main project for CC is going to be done by hand.

I was explaining to my mom how I plan on making things like the big skirt and she just looked at me and said, "Are you sure you do this for fun?" XD

Anyway, here's a question: how would locals/GTA residents feel about getting together for Bitch-n-Stitch sessions next winter so we can work on our projects for this con, workshop and troubleshoot, generally socialize, etc.? I'm sure we're all nice people here. :B

I find hand sewing fabric torturous! But beading goes so fast for me as it purely decorative I don't mind it and I feel like I'm achieving something with my time. >_<

I'm moving to TO in September, primarily for school (fashion arts student at Seneca), and I'm sure I'd love some social sewing. Or a place to complain about my bloodsoaked fingers (I've got three costumes to make between July and Costume-Con, at least one of which has to be done in February, whatever school makes me sew, several accesory pieces for other people, and I wanted to make a few clothing items I bought patterns for ages ago... AND I have a teensy bit of extra income selling handmade parasprite plushies.)

Trust me, I know the feels. I have Agoraphobia so sometimes leaving my bedroom is a hard task day to day. But the nice thing about the costuming community is once you have an 'in' and you have friends who share your hobbies, there will always be friends who will help pull you out the door for fabric shopping

Juxebox: You know my apartment is always up for stitch n' bitch, especially now that it's actual sewing and not massive armour making.

xoxo

I'm down for stitch n' bitch!

King Textile's new location does indeed have a downstairs that's open to the public. They have all sorts of clearance stuff as well as their entire trim department.

I haven't been to Toronto for fabric shopping in almost 2 years. lol

If i get super luck and find a black with either rainbow or silver pinstriped ribbon or trim I would make my day as well. lol I'm willing to paint that but I do question where they found such unique fabric piece. *_*

I'm relatively central in TO and would definitely be down for a stitch-n-bitch or two

I'm soo glad this is coming to Toronto. I most likely will be going with my mother (even at 20 I will be going with my mom HAHA) to show her how cons are like. She also is excited to wear a historical costume I make for her.
Most likely though I will have to make it this summer and winter because of university (I have to stay on residence because I was unable to find a place).

I'd be down to do the bitch-n-stich too. Although most likely Fridays and weekends will be the best. I am new to costuming and trying to make something as I picture it (I am a little bit of a perfectionist) but not new to sewing at all.
