Hi ^^

I was just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for which patterns to use for Rin and Yukio.

The next question is how comfortable do you feel making it up as you go/frankensteining/altering existing patterns? I'm sure there's an actual gakuran pattern out there, I'm just inclined to use a pattern I already have (it's free).

So! If you happen to have a misses blouse pattern lying around already (I happen to have one from butterick (Something like this)), you could potentially just omit the darts and add the triangle shape underneath the collar, and be basically good to go.

If you aren't comfortable frankensteining, or don't have a random pattern laying around that you can alter (since that is free), you could check out different civil war uniform patterns that you can alter for the right shape. Essentially, Rin and Yukio's uniform top is a suit jacket/gakuran sort of style, and essentially based off of a military style.

...>.> I'm not sure whether I actually helped there or made it potentially more confusing. Good luck!

On a side note, there is a free pattern site that might have an equivalent if you want to dig through it. I don't know how easy their patterns are to follow, but I've been looking at this site for a while, here.

On another side note, does anybody have any references/close-ups of the patch and button on Rin's jacket?

Edit: So I've been thinking about Rin's ears. Just in case anybody is interested, I've found this, which links to a site that has a nice selection of ears. Though I'm torn between the longer ears that fit with Rin's demonic/activated version, smaller ear tips, which would suit the more normal Rin (and other cosplays too), these ears which have an interesting shape, which just makes me kind of think of Rin, but most likely not, larger ears...

Then of course, there's another site that is recommended, enchantedcostumes.com, which has more ears... What do you guys think? o.o?

^^; Sorry for the long post.

for Rin's Fang i recommend the standard Vampire Fangs by Scarecrow ones (wearing them in my icon)

For ears You can get woochie ones for fairly cheep (the short veriaties)

More demon form.

I do like these ones because Rin's are always point downwards or horizontal rather than up.

Those are the fangs and ears I got for my Mephisto

http://www.cosplay.com/photo/2948146/

You can't see the fangs really but I got 2 pairs of the scarecrow subtle vampire fangs so I could have top and bottom fangs. They fit really well and I can talk just fine even with 4 fangs in my mouth 8)

Thanks! I hadn't even thought about where to get the fangs yet. @-@ Your fangs are amazing!

I'm going to give the aradani ears a shot, I like their shape... >.>;

You look amazing! Just like Mephisto. Even if you can't really see the fangs.

Hello all! I'm hoping to make Mephisto for Otakon! I just love his design - it's so outlandish and fun!

I actually own a pair of "Anime Elf Ears" from that same website and I used them for my Scanty cosplay: http://www.cosplay.com/photo/2936999/big/ I quite like them so I think I'll just wash them off and re-use them. I also own a pair of the subtle Scarcrow fangs which I purchased for my Scanty cosplay. I don't have a pic of them yet, but I should be getting one back soon so you guys can see what they look like.

A couple of things that confuse me about Mephisto:

1. His skin tone. It looks normal (albeit pale) in the anime, but in this manga artwork it look like a light purple: http://gallery.minitokyo.net/view/521856 In other artwork he looks more pale. I'm wondering if I should lighten my skin up a little? I think it would look kind of neat, but I don't want to look like a zombie or anything haha.
2. His cape. Is the little capelet part attached to the cape or is it separate? It looks like the capelet has the collar on it, so I'm seeing no other way for the cape to work than those two pieces to be attached.
3. Eye color? I think he has red eyes but I can't tell?

Capt_Lucifer, your progress looks great so far! Have you found any good socks/tights for him?

I also have a pair of Subtle and Saber fangs. Subtle are really small and I have a hard time wearing them up top (the wire on my lower teeth preventing me from wearing them). Sabers are insanely large and good for photoshoots but really hard to wear and keep my mouth closed with them on being so long.

I do also like the Small Elfs but they seem almost two small for Rin.

3. Eye color? Yellow from what I can tell.

I'm reading the manga right now (on charpter 16 I think) I Kuro the cat! The chapters are really long as well so I'm surprised it's only a 12 ep. series (so far).

Depending on your own skin tone I would suggest maybe making yourself just slightly more pale. I'm a very pale person so I'm not doing anything special for my skin tone but if you're naturally darker skinned then maybe a little lighter would be a good idea. It's all up to your personal preference ^ ^

His cape I would say is attached. At the collar the two pieces are most likely sewn together.... I think I'm describing that right.... lol xD

His eyes are green (sometimes shown as a greenish yellow). There are a few close-ups of his eyes floating around (I attached a screencap from the anime and a manga scan) but they're definitely green.

For my tights I bought pink ones and Im going to sharpie the darker lines in. I'm going to wear them and have someone help me draw them on 8)

Pale green??? I'm looking at mostly the manga images no wonder I was confused.

I think your Scanty contacts would work just fine for him devious-tofu.

@Mailorder: My sister and I were thinking that we're going to have to find a black tie and paint the designs on.... but we haven't actually looked to find striped ties yet...

And from a quick search online, everything I've seen has the stripes all the way through, if they are horizontal.

So I've been thinking about Rin's sword... I've got two options, I think, one in which I embed the LED's inside the sword itself, and frost the outer acrylic layer to make it look like it's glowing from the inside, which isn't entirely accurate but will work for depicting fire, I think, or I could make a normal(ish) sword, with a clear plastic and LED's attached to the outside in a flame shape, which would give the better impression of fire, but be unable to actually sheath it.... That would also match the 'horns' I'm going to make.

So what do you guys think? ^^; I'm still in the design phase, but I'm trying to figure out what would look best in this case.

For the tie I recommend finding one with a thin white pinstripe pattern and painting in the red over every other white strip.

Red and white doesn't paint well over black so this will save a step. Also recommend getting Jacquard Neopaque paints.
http://www.jacquardproducts.com/prod...ints/neopaque/

For the end of the tail just fill in with black before adding the insignia.

I have a suggestion that isn't as cool looking as EL wire but to make organza/tellu flames that slip on with an elastic band in the inside of the bundle onto the blade.

@Ani BEE: That might work, and potentially more cost effective... :/ The organza/tulle idea. I'll look into that. Thanks!

You're right about painting on black... >.>; Good thing we haven't bought our ties yet.

Does anyone have more reference pictures for the patch on Rin and Yukio's blazers, or the pin on their collars?
