There seems to be plenty of people in the 5 boroughs and around NY state that it wouldn't seem out of place to try and get together just to hang out for a day in person. I only have a couple people who I talk cosplay with irl, but I know I have a few people here on this forum on my AIM or MSN that I chat with regularly too.

Also, you could make a youtube vlog about making costumes and such, then maybe you wouldn't be bothered as much (hopefully). I know from experience that watching instructions is a helluva lot easier than reading them. Just make sure you speak slowly. ^.^
