Chikorita Leaf Help?

Hello! I'm planning on cosplaying Chikorita this coming friday at Animazement. I'm almost done but I've run into a spot of trouble with the leaf and making it stand up. I have a headband that I can attach the leaf to but I'm just not sure how to pull it off. I don't know what wire to use, what to make the leaf out of and how to attach it to the headband. I had tried one method using a coat hanger, a screw and a nut glued to a headband but it was way too heavy. I'd like to make it as lightweight as possible so it's not totally miserable to wear. Oh and I'm wearing a wig just as an fyi. Please help? I am a bit pressed for time! Thanks so much in advance!

16-18 gauge artistic wire and opaque green tights/leggings. You can paint or sew the seam down the length of the leaf. There are lots of fairy wing tutorials online which may give you some ideas.

For attaching the leaf to the headband, I'm not sure...

Ooh! Not a bad idea actually! I may give that a go tonight. I guess I could try wrapping the wire around the headband and then roll duct tape over the wire. Or hot glue...something. Regardless, if the leaf is just wire and tights, that may be lightweight enough to be less of a problem than using a coat hanger with fabric and stuffing.
