Yeah, I'll second precautions for mosquitoes- dengue fever is NOT a pleasant thing to get- and NEVER drinking out-of-the-faucet water. Nothing like dysentery, cholera, hepatitis, flukes, e coli or traveller's diarrhea to make your trip come to a grinding halt. Wash your hands lots, too. It's not JUST local things that could be contaminated....
Be careful with food, too. Don't eat meat that isn't well done- stay the hell away from street meats-, or locally prepared mayo/dressings, raw shellfish, cold hors d'oeuvres, or unpasteurized milk (extends to ice cream). And try to peel fruit yourself if you're eating it.
...and I assume you've gotten the right vaccines for travelling to the area? They can, and probably will, be a life-saver. (Yellow fever, cholera, etc.)
