Earthquakes

So as a kid, I was obsessed with earthquakes, and I got obsessed again after we had a 5.4 in 2008. That was the first time I had ever felt a quake because I had grown up in earthquake-free central Ohio. I know a lot of you live in California and other earthquake-prone places.

Anyone else interested in them? Scared of them? Have theories about them?

*is still slightly grumpy from being awakened by a 4.2 last night*

Nope, never experienced one. It's the UK, what do you expect.

Not really afraid of them if they are low classified on the Richter scale. But I'd be very scared if it was like 6+ on the scale, especially if it put everyone in high danger of death and serious injury.

I had one when I was little, and it was around a 4, I woke up and thought it was a monster under my bed. xD

I experienced my first one in Guam, kinda freaky when you're on the 20th floor, biggest one I experienced was in Oki last year, woke me up when my "jade" (lawl) tigers fell off and hit the coffee table. Never really cared about them enough to do research. Only left with the feeling of "geez whiz, that was an earthquake"

im in australia....and i'm in probably the safest state of all. no natural disasters pretty much. well the bush fires were just awful, but they only emotionally effected me. as for earth quakes, tornados, cyclones, tsunamis, hurricanes..... we see none.

The only Earthquake I've experienced was that one ride at Disney world. XD

I live in MN, though. I don't really know if I'm scared of them or not, just because I haven't experienced an actual one.

Tornadoes on the other hand are kind of scary and interesting at the same time.

... there was an earthquake last night? i remember the one from '08. i was living in a trailer at the time and the whole place shook like the washing machine was going, but it wasn't. one of my friends was staying over and had no idea what was going on

i used to live in california, so earthquakes are really no big deal to me. in fact, i hate/am afraid more of tornadoes than earthquakes

Living in Japan for 6 years, I've gotten used to earthquakes.

I've also gotten used to the idea that at any moment one of them could snuff me out like a candle.

Like them? More like... respect them.

I like earthquakes. The only one that scared me was the SF quake of '89, and it didn't scare me until a few years after it happened, when I realized the danger I actually avoided.

At the time I thought a boulder or something was rolling down the street.

I much prefer quakes to other natural disasters, though. Except maybe an asteroid.

I'm kind of glad I live in an area with very few earthquakes (southern Ontario). I DID experience one last summer, but it was laughably small. A 5.0 near Ottawa, about 300 km away, so when it hit my house? My bed (which I was sitting on) just shook for about five seconds. By the time I realized OMFG AN EARTHQUAKE.... it was over.

...but ice storms, on the other hand...

Last year there was an 4. something earthquake in the DC area. It was around 4 am so I was asleep at the time. Neighbors dogs barked their heads off, but they do that for everything.
