Good fabric
It depends what stores you have available. The thing is not choosing the store as much as knowing what fabrics to choose.
For example: I love cotton, but cotton although it is normally cheaper than other fabrics, it will wrinkle. So only use cotton for tops, collars or accent pieces. For a higher quality cotton feel fabric, you can use cotton/twill. It will wrinkle less and it has a good weight. It can be used for skirts, pants, jacket, light weight coats tunics, etc. For a dressier but good weight fabric, there is sateen. For a shiny fabric there is a heavy or medium weight satin. Light satin make any costume look cheap. Even for lining, use a medium weight satin. Pleather instead of leather. Flowy medium weight fabric, Crepe de Chine. Super flowy, slightly see thru, but a little challenging to sew, Chiffon. Heavy jacket fabric, denim. I hope these pointer can help you. If you have a particular design you need to figure out what fabric to use, just post it and I will try to help you the best I can. |

If anyone has seen or has owned a barong, I am looking for fabrics similar to what those are made of. I need to know fabrics that come in ivory/white, are sheer somewhat, and are stiff.

Hi, I'm planning on doing twilight princess link as a first cosplay but I'm clueless on fabric. I was thinking of using linen but I've heard its really expensive and wrinkles a lot but I like the look of it. I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions on good fabric (something that wont shrink either I'm small already haha). I was also wondering if there's anything that at least looks similar to leather if i am unable to get real leather. Any help is appreciated thanks!

Moblin: Pleather/vinyl is the typical go-to alternative for leather; you can get it in a bunch of different weights and finishes, depending on where you look. As an alternative to linen, you could look for fabrics with a similar weave -- there are polycotton "linen-look" blends out there. My personal go-to is this linen-cotton blend from Dharma Trading; it still wrinkles some (as most natural fibre fabrics will), but steams/irons out super-fast. Undyed and dyed -- and both pretty much pulled out out of the suitcase without ironing.
anotherMelissa: It sounds like what you're looking for is an organza (silk or polyester) -- fairly sheer and reasonably stiff. The poly variety can be found at JoAnn's. littlefreeze: I'd look for a midweight twill -- it's a good go-to-for coats.

I was wondering what fabric should I use for Brs's jacket. I've seen a lot of different cosplays, and some people use a pleather, some people just use a plain black sweater, and some people use a sports jacket. Im really not sure what I should go with.

While I don't need to know this any time soon, I want to start looking around, for fabrics. What would you all recommend using for Suiseiseki's dress? It doesn't have the same sort of shine to it as Shinku's, so I'm thinking something matte maybe?

One option I was thinking about for a Green Arrow cosplay was the hooded jacket(?) from this pic. Any ideas? I was thinking pleather, but what do I know...

Hello all~ I was wondering for Mystogan what fabric I should use~
I have a good idea of what I want I just want others opinions~ I was thinking of using some sort of cotton or matte material, from what I've seen people use a more lustrous fabric (kind of like this ) I'm planning on doing all the whit parts as bandages with a white shirt underneath then add onto it with things like the cape Thank you in advance My budget doesn't really matter btw ![]()

http://www.distinctivefabric.com/fab...ct=SLDLGHRFUR1 Prices do vary, but just a warning, some fur can be really crummy (usually the kind at Jo-Ann's stores is bad. It's thin, and not really soft at all...) I don't know of the quality of the white at the site I linked. It's just an example, but you can order a swatch. |
