Mainly looking for suggestions for the upper half. I live in Scotland,...which isn't known for its warm weather! So no thin fabrics ta. ^^;

Originally I was musing about velvet, but my knowledge of fabric is limited so people with more experience might be able to suggest something better.

I'll be going to an event as Thor (original comic version) at the end of the month, and whilst I've got the main outfit done, I'm having trouble deciding on what I should make his cape out of (here's the movie version for a more realistic reference http://marvel.com/images/gallery/sto...ge/901951/full , they're pretty much similar) . I've already got an idea on how I'll be attaching it, it's just the material that's bugging me.

A lot of people have suggested swimsuit material, but I'm not so sure. I'd prefer something a bit more durable, but somewhat flowy as well.

velvet would be nice, but does have it's quirks, depending on your sewing experience level it might be frustrating to work with. Another option, and one that should be readily available, is a wool gaberdine. some of the finest woven wools come from your fair country, so getting off cuts or end runs would be awesome, affordable, and make a good looking costume.

I am back... with... a pickle. I kind of spontaneously decided I wanted to cosplay Anju from Zelda: Majora's Mask.

What I plan to do is make a simple little vest and then play Frankenstein by getting cutting off the sleeves from another shirt and throwing those on my vest. Only problem is, aside from having relatively little idea of what kind of fabric to use on the vest - I was thinking something on the tougher side, maybe a bottomweight or broadcloth - I really can't identify the color of it. All the pictures I find, the walkthroughs I've seen, and the other cosplays I've seen can't quite decide if she's wearing a brown, a reddish brown, or just a dark red. In the game, it almost looks burgundy. I'm so confused. DX

Fabric for this? I want to embroider on it, which would probably make a difference. http://images.wikia.com/bloodyroar/e...ngHumanBRX.jpg

I plan on doing a sarah kerrigan cosplay. I dont know what kind of fabric I should use for the bodysuit. Would it be better to use 4 way stretch pleather or something like lyrica/spandex?
There is going to be the piping where the black lines are and I need to figure out how to put a light that goes all the way along there. Any suggestions?

heres my reference pictures http://imgur.com/a/LSIrX

I want a sort of dark brown and medium-weight thing.

I'm doing Juvia from Fairy Tail (2 costumes), and I'm at a complete loss! Here are some reference pictures:
Costume 1: http://silent-shanin.deviantart.com/...oxar-199440221
Costume 2: http://images.wikia.com/fairytail/im.../Cover_231.jpg (she's the one on the very far right, in the dress with the kimono sleeves)

Any suggestions would be appreciated!!!

The easiest fabric to use would be cotton, but if you want something shiny, maybe cotton sateen? Satin type fabrics tend to be a bit slippery, but I've heard that sateen is a bit easier to work with.

Costume 1:I think her white skirt with the wave pattern would look nice in cotton, ideally a medium weight cotton so that it drapes well. Her waistcoat/corset needs to be made of a heavier material, might need boning too. Her blue underskirt could be cotton, though for an interesting texture you could try a material with a little shine to it (not very shiny satin, but maybe sateen). not sure about her top.

Hnnnngggh I can pretty much piece out this pattern in my brain but what would you guys suggest for the vest/top of Rikku's Songstress outfit?

Reference: http://www.creativeuncut.com/gallery...0-2-rikku8.jpg

Sucks since there's no 'art' version of this dressphere :T And thus...difficult to figure out what sort of material from the game graphics. Thank you in advance <3

If you right click, copy link location, and paste into a new window, it works

It appears the same material is being used on the boots and sleeves - that's annoying; material that is suitable for boots is rarely suitable for apparel, and that for apparel rarely suitable for boots. I'd go for a mid-weight cotton suiting. Sticking with natural fibers like cotton, linen, or rayon (or blends) will enable you to dye in the gradient without too much trouble, too.
