Vocaloid Photoshoot.. did I overdo the sparklies?

Okay, so I tried to spice up the photos from our Vocaloid photoshoot, so I tried for a sparkly JPop feel with airbrushed sparklies and diffused glow.. did I overdo it? Does anyone else have any tricks for achieving a dreamy anime feel without looking too cheesy?

The soft, white dots look okay. Even though they are simplistic, they have a decent effect. The clouds on the Male singer take away from the image. Perhaps a different technique for clouds could enhance it. The colorful clouds in the other photo have a better. more subtle effect.

I like the soft white dots, but the blurs of color seem to distract from the image, making it look incomplete or damaged. I think just a bit less on them, perhaps not so drak or make them transpartent/opaque, will help fix this.

I don't think you overdid it! Those are great photos, and I actually think you could be bolder about it to achieve the effect you want.

The soft white dots are a good start, but right now to me they're not distinct enough as sparklies. They seem more like snow to me, and because almost none of them are placed in front of the models over their skin or clothes, etc. they seem very consciously grouped.

In the second image, the green and blue blurs are also puzzling: are they "sparklies" really close, because some of these are in front of the models? It's hard for me to tell.

I'm new here, so I don't know how photographers feel about this on this forum, but if you don't mind sending me a small, unretouched version of one of those photos I could try out what I would do myself just to demonstrate what I'm about to explain, which would make it a lot easier to see. If you'd rather not, though, I understand and apologize for asking.

Basically for a "dreamy anime feel" following along the lines of what you've done, I would up the saturation, apply an aura through drawing a light outline and blurring it around the subject, add "sparklies" by doing round gradients in one layer and dropping the opacity, and then placing a solid white dot in the middle on top of each one in another layer (with possibly more work going into them), grouping them more around areas like the face or hands to subtly draw attention there. I'd probably also smooth the subject out more than usual in terms of skin, etc. to suggest a more "artificial/animated" effect. It's tough trying to balance reality with animation without it looking cheesy, though!

I had a hell of a time correcting the color cast from the majority of the shots. >_<

I am trying to find the original photoshop tutorial I used to achieve the look, but I can't find it for the life of me! If anyone has any links to similar effects tutorials, please post!
