Ciel's Hat - 6th Manga Cover

Got it now. Looks like a basic top hat to me.... Why make something that could be obtained?

Even basic top hats get expensive. I'm actually working on this costume for someone right now and I'm going to use Lynn McMaster's top hat pattern. I've done one from it so far (not the greatest but I'm learning) and I have to say, making hats is very different from making clothing. But if you want to make an accurate top hat, her pattern is the way to go.

Could you get a cheap one from a costume shop or even JoAnn's or Michaels and the like sell cheap ones! Then all you would have to do is add fabric to it (for the look/feel) and the detail/accessories! I did that for a base of Undertaker's hat and it worked great! I'm looking to do the same for another cosplay coming up.

For my hat, I just bought a basic black top hat and added on everything. I don't have the skills or patience to make a hat myself yet.

I was going to make the hat, but I lucked up on a decent one on ebay. I got it today, thinking it was going to be a bit crappy since it was cheap, but in all it is a good hat. They have it in different sizes too. So, I actually just cut the cost on the commission I'm doing by lucking up on this hat. I might never be so lucky again, but this time I was.
