Fiora Cavazza/Courtesan's Fan

So I need to get Fiora's fan done for the next con I'm going to. I asked around and see if I could get it commissioned but it seems like all the prop masters think its impossible. The only choice left is to make it myself and I'm a complete total noob at any prop making. :/
But I'll try nonetheless and hopefully I'll have a bit of luck and it'll come out looking normal. ~_~

Here's one made that I found on deviant art:

I know its made out of basswood and that's the only place I know where to begin. xD
If anyone knows where to get that design and how to put it on the wood it would be a great help. And also how to actually get the fan to hold together.

lol, that was actually made by the very talented tasukigirl, try PMing her

but eesh, dunno who you've been talking to, but fans are really simple to make. you can make it out of matboard, draw the shape, cut out a dozen or so of the exact same shape, put a hole in the bottom of each one (in the exact same place, grab a nut & bolt, bolt it together, paint, done yay fan!

I messaged her, so hopefully I get a reply. :]
Yep, got that part down. Just that unique floral design is all I need. I can handle the cross symbol in the middle, but that pattern...I have no idea where it can be found. @_@
If that fails maybe I can get a stencil that looks similar and paint it on?

i think tasuki drew it, scanned and printed it a bunch and glued them on. try looking for the pattern on the fan in the references.

I responded to Hoodwink's messages earlier, but the design for Fiora's fan is a little different. A folding fan is pretty easy to make but the problem is this more like a tessen. The blades are flat and fold that way too. Because of the width of the blade, you can't really attach them the traditional way (that I could figure out) so I kind of mucked around with it and only attached them with a very thing strip across the top. My life would have been easier if I had printed out that pattern and pasted it, but there are no scans (that I found) that were high res enough to do so, so I ended up hand drawing it, scanning that in and making a stencil to paint that pattern on.

If I do end up making a second one, I'll be sure to document the whole process and make a tutorial. I've had a ton of questions about that fan. @_@

I see it took some serious hard work and you did a very good job on it tasuki, it came out looking amazing. :'D
Well hopefully I'll do a good job at replicating it.
Thanks for the info and your help. :]
