I'm new to fan expo, this will be my first year going and I thought it would be cool to dress up as a different character each of the 4 days. I've been looking at pictures of previous years and in the pictures of the crowd, it looked like about 1 or 2 (if even) people were dressed up. Do people generally dress up for all the days/events or just specific times?

People usually dress up all days. Some people don't dress up all days and some do, it all depends on what you want to do. I like to dress up for all days but sometimes I like to just hang around the dealers room without being stopped for a picture so at some point I take the costume off to do that.

it is completely up to you. I have a friend whom was picking up the badges at AN a day before the con even started and dressed up just for fun.
You can hang around with friends and take pictures of others or shop, but not dressing up means you won't get the attention you might want if you had. Since it only happens once a year I suggest you do dress up and get some attention/feedback and most importantly have fun with fellow cosplayers. |

last year there were close to I think 70,000 people there, I would say there was at least 2,000 cosplayers of anime and several of other things too... it could be more, but there was at least that cause I know someone who got 2000 pictures of different people (she had 3000ish total, but some were the same people on a different day in a different costume...) My group alone (6-8 people) are cosplaying... so definitely not just '1 or 2'... there's no specific time or day... we're cosplaying from 12noon Thursday- 6PM Sunday...

I find the cosplays don't stand out as much as anime cosplays. People do cosplay but, not everyone has the time or money to. Don't be scared to cosplay any of the days. I'm going for Saturday and I can't wait to cosplay. It's fun and you get people talking to you.

there are plenty of people cosplaying all days, you won't stand out or anything if you do. the only thing it's not nearly as many as AN and they're less elaborate-likely because of the crowds, i know i'm leaving my weapons behind for that reason. i'd say 30-40% cosplay, which puts you in the minority, but when you see how many people are there, that's still a hell of a lot of cosplayers.

What I've noticed with the fanexpo costumes is that they may not be as "elaborate" as ANs as in they don't take up as much room [no wings and such]. the costumes tend to be less space consuming but there are stunning cosplayers there. ^^ [some costumes are more intricate than i've ever seen at AN] Maybe it just seems to be less cosplayers than AN because the ratio of cosplayers to regular people is lower? But... yeah there are tons of cosplayers xD You don't have to worry about standing out... although it'd be best to avoid the dealers room while your in a space eating cosplay (>_<) |

My beaker one will not have larger props which is a plus to space confinement issue of FanExpo. It's also the reason I only have on riffle form Mami from last year (plus it's heavy to hold out with one hand and not shake).
