Gorgeous! My wife is Bicolano so the Philippines carry a special interest with me.

In the spirit of Christmas, my model Cherryl and I did a photo shoot near Christmas lights. I had her point her face upward to reduce potential shadows from the key light high above her. I used an 85mm 1.8 lens all the way open. Shutter 1/30. ISO 800. I used the florescent color balance preset, which worked well with the Florescent key light on her face, and the LED Christmas lights.

My friend Ace Cruz and I are making a movie in Boracay, Philippines. We are writing the script and plan to shoot it in March 2012. It is an action/comedy intended in the tradition of movies like Superbad, Weekend at Bernies, and Hangover. Below are some promo photos I took for this project with vacationer Emilia Escudero, from Spain.

I used an off camera Canon flash on a light stand, with Pocket Wizard Flex tranceivers, an umbrella, and a Quantum Turbo Battery. No matter how far I travel, I never get to travel light.

^^ get one of those Canon 1200/5.6s a 2x teleconverter on something like a 7D and I think we can get that Flag for you

but that 85/1.2L is NICE, I almost wanna reserve one along with a 7D or 5D-II for rental next Con. . . just for Kicks, either that or the slightly more reasonable 50/1.2L, either way Im sure it would be worth it

Don't do it man...you'll be tormented by the Canon demons with their lusty f1.2 tata's. Using the 85mm f1.2 is like catching a marlin...everything else feels like minnows.

I kid of course, but the 5D Mark II is a joy to use and the lens selection is fantastic.

Are "football" shaped blur highlights normal for that 85mm lens?

Edit: I'll have to test out my 85mm f1.4 to see if it does something similar.

It's referred to as "Cat's eye".

Here an article that explains it better than I could:

As 2012 began, an angel and a flower appeared in the form of fireworks during 1 hour of a non-stop light show over the beaches of Boracay, Philippines. Thousands witnessed the event from the famed powdery soft, white sand.

A shimmer of warmth cut through the blue of night, and cascaded behind Willy's Rock, in Boracay, bringing in the New Year with Gold!
