That's reasonable. I do occasionally do a B&W process on non-cosplay stuff. I usually start out with one of the Lightroom presets, then do some further channel tweaks as necessary, and often add some split toning. I'm far from an expert at it, though.

@Nathancarter, I absolutely love working with B/W.
Probably, because i'm partially color blind..

@jeprox, that's a neat edit. but, man, it looks like it was time consuming. I like it.

I certainly didn't catch any issues in your shot, Jeprox. Stunning image! Goes to show we're our own worst critics haha

Anime Expo 2014

As an actor myself, I've come to really appreciate great cross plays. Ari not only had an incredibly accurate costume and makeup scheme, she was able to really project the character on camera. Japanese anime may have some "effeminate" looking male characters, but I find it no less impressive when it's pulled off so well, especially since Ari seemed to be able to jump in and out of character on instant demand. You could tell she was one of those smart folks who just got what's going on both in front and behind the camera. The "it factor" and screen presence were things that really sells this image and made my job directing the model especially easy and enjoyable for this shoot!

When I opened this image up in photoshop I was thinking, "This one's good enough as is." But between keeping it clean and keeping it consistent with the other image in the series, I'm often tempted to keep it consistent. Funny enough, one of the hardest things during processing was keeping the cinder count low. Not because I was tempted to keep adding cinder flakes, but because I had to hide all the extra ones, taking me three tries in total.

After compressing to JPEG, I kept staring at the final image for three whole minutes, trying to figure out why I was so bothered by the eye until I realized I added a catchlight at the wrong angle of reflection. Now my OCD can settle down.

Some amazing Cosplay performance skills were revealed, towards the end of the last day of Anime Expo 2014. An elaborate photo shoot is in the planning... — with Raven Wolf and Vlad DuCantes at Anime ExpoŽ.

To avoid having to "crop out the problem," I often sketch out concepts for the shoot beforehand but in this shot, I came up with the pose on the spot after I looked at Kate's body and noticed she looked nimble and light and I wanted to portray that. I was squatting myself at the time and suggested she come down. The side lean was something having to do with center of gravity and the implications to the composition (a topic I'll touch upon in my upcoming panel at Anime California!!). The fingertip support was also something that just felt right as opposed to a flat hand. Overall, I was pretty proud of this full body shot!

Getting the cape to flow like that took quite a trick, but it worked great!
