Help with Temari

Hi, I'm looking to do my first cosplay in December for my birthday, as I'm having an anime-themed party because I couldn't find a con to cosplay at, since there aren't any in Scotland.

I'm cosplaying Temari (if you don't know who she is, then look here http://images.saiyanisland.com/data/...f_the_Wind.jpg) and was originally going to make my own costume, but then decided that it would be too hard as I've never really made any clothes before ^^;. So instead, I was either going to buy this costume http://www.ecrater.co.uk/p/9353173/n...ari-costume-64 or this one http://www.ecrater.co.uk/p/11495847/...an-art-cosplay, though probably the first one as I already have the headband. I was going to make the shoes using this tutorial https://sites.google.com/site/lizspa...sandaltutorial though I need help finding a wig. I was going to just buy a plain blonde wig and then attempt to style it myself, but I really don't want to make a mess of it, so does anyone have any advice or would be willing to make a simple tutorial? Also, I need advice on the makeup; like how to make my eyes look like Temaris, as I know hers aren't huge like other anime girl eyes, and how to cover up freckles, as I have red hair so therefore have A LOT.

Any advice at all would be great!

Any pony tail is the bane of a wig's existence. When it comes to Temari it's a nightmare. There is no "simple" way to style a wig into Temari's four pigtails. You need to add wefts to a wig to hide the under mesh if you do it yourself. If you haven't a clue what you'd be doing with a wig buy a pre-styled one. I'm on the same page as you are and have done a ton of research into this. Good luck!

Okay, do you know any sites selling cheap ones? The only reason I was put off buying a styled one was that they are soooo expensive

*********************************UPDATE*********** ***********************

Because it's cheaper, I might be getting this outfit instead http://www.ecrater.co.uk/p/11495807/...temari+costume though I don't like it as much as the other one, so which one should I get?

Also, instead of getting a wig, I was thinking of using a non-permanent blonde hair dye, and getting my friend to help me gel it into the right style. I have just-longer-than-shoulder hair though it's not really that thick so I don't know if it would work. Any advice?

Temari's wig is not cheap either and it doesnt look good either

http://cgi.ebay.com/Temari-Blond-WIG... em19c6b4b9e1

You have to get a wig that is thick and like Imoondancer said.

Well I might actually just try to style my own hair, because I've never tried anything like that before, and as Temari's hairstyle is quite difficult to create, it's probably not a good place for me to start

You may be able to use a fluffy wig like Arda's Jareth or the Punky. Both have enough wig fibers to make four small ponytails. Here's a great ponytail tutorial for wigs, too. In case you're still deciding. Basically, you "build" the ponytails up from the center out. I don't think you would have to trim and caulk anything, either. It would be a big project, but not too hard for a beginner.

The tutorial looks quite good, however the wigs that you mentioned seem a little too pricey for me, as I've still got to save up for a costume as well. I appreciate you taking the time to give me some advice though

Ah, no probs. Looking at the first costume, have you considered making/assembling it? The tee shirt, skirt, and sash might be pretty cheap off ebay or something. And making her "apron" vest doesn't look too complicated either. For the tights, buy some cheap fishnets, cut them apart, and sew elastic on the ends.

As for makeup, I would apply either gray or black eyeliner along the upper lash line, extending it out past the eye. Here's a good tutorial, although you don't have to extend the line as far as she does. Curl lashes and apply black mascara. Flawless skin is a must for anime characters. Maybe apply a little tinted lip balm and peachy-nude blush for some color.

Your right about the apron-thing and the tights, as there's loads of vest-tops of there that can be easily modified to look like it, and that's what I was going to do with the tights anyway. But as for the purple top, I'm finding it really hard to find one in the that style, and I don't think I'd be able to find a skirt like that either, though if you find either of those two things, please let me know.

That eyeliner tutorial looks like good, but as for the flawless skin, I'm finding it really hard to cover my freckles and I've posted a topic in the Makeup/Contacts section about that http://www.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=252337

You could browse thrift stores for the top and skirt. They tend to have a high turnover rate, so you may be able to find something one day and not the next. As for the freckles, I think Temari would look great with freckles! If you keep the focus on your eyes (make them look bigger and slightly uplifted) no one is going to scrutinize your skin.
If you do know how to sew, or some one else who can, here's a cheap basic tee pattern that can be modified. There are probably tutorials on the internet of how to make a skirt pattern using an existing skirt as a template. Good luck!

Aww thanks, maybe I will keep my freckles then

As for the top and skirt, I think I may have found them! For the apron-thingy, I was going to get this top http://www.newlook.com/shop/teens-an...vest_217561510 and cut off the straps and sew on new red ones. For the skirt, I was thinking of maybe getting this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISA...m=300577646259 (though it might be a bit big on me) and then cut the slits into it. As for the lilac top, I was thinking of getting this one http://www.bhs.co.uk/mall/productpag.../241237/240437 as it's the perfect style and everything!... only the colour's not right! The deep purple colour looks too dark, so in that case, do you know anything about dyeing clothes? Like what brands of dye to use, do's and don'ts etc

For the vest/apron, I would buy two of them and use one as lining for the other. I think one would be too thin. The skirt looks fantastic. I recommend wearing boy shorts underneath so as to avoid wardrobe malfunctions!
If the tee is indeed 100% cotton, I recommend getting it in white and dying it purple because you cannot lighten a darker color without bleach, which is messy and not worth the hassle. You should post your questions about fabric dying in the Sewing/Fabric Craft section. Someone with knowledge about dying fabric can help you more than I can
I'm glad you found stuff you can use for a lot less money than the full costume would have cost you.
