Has an anime/video game ever changed your life?

So it might sound kind of... geeky. Or even scary. I dunno. But has it? Have you ever changed something major because of, or even inspired by, an anime or video game?

Fruits Basket actually inspired me to improve my relationship with my younger sibling before we hit adulthood. Go figure. I wondered if there were any other similar stories out there.

Anyone?

I'd say so. Getting into Naruto in my later teens finally inspired/motivated me enough to get my chubby butt off the couch and take martial arts (jiu jjitsu, specifically) when I saw a class being offered at college. Which of course led to a lot more of positive results (fitness, confidence, better work ethic, less inclined to whine about being hot and sweaty, etc.). I'm not into Naruto anymore, but that change lasted and am I ever glad.

It's going to sound cliched, but Gurren Lagann let me see my life in a WHOLE new light. I'm more reluctant to give up, I'm emotionally stronger, and I've faced less bouts of depression.

I'm proud to say that, yes, I DO have the Gurren Dan symbol on a few things and that's because by just looking at it, I remember that I can do whatever I put my mind to.

I blame Sailor Moon for my insufferable optimism and will to see the good in everyone.

I have to say...Naruto is another one of them for me :L Though I was roughly the same age as they were at the time, alot of those single and meaningful quotes or moments stuck by me. To me, this was when Naruto was good. XD Oh and Fruits Basket (manga), stuck by with me too since the beginning and end of highschool <3

Getting a Ninteno 64 for christmas in elementary school changed my life, and watching Sailor moon in 3rd grade also changed my life. Anime and video games are going to be apart of me for a long time

No.

But "Nabari no Ou" has changed how I look at my life.

It came around at the right time. My father has just died in an accident, I was in my late 20s and kept myself holed up like an emo teenager, angry that others didn't knock down my door to be friends with me or comfort me. I was also squandering chances to assert myself, positively influence 2,000 local children as a teacher, and to reconnect with my family.

I found the series when I needed to find it.

I'll never be here, at this age, with these people under these circumstances again.
Every minute is something unique, unchangeable and unrepeatable.
We can only do what we can, while we can to touch everyone we can.
And ~everyone~ is in the same boat.

I guess I could blame Chrono Trigger for helping me find my nerdy niche. Before playing it, I didn't know there could be games that involved more plot than just jumping on mushrooms or running really fast. It opened doors to meeting more geeky people (including my first boyfriend). It also helped bridge the path to anime when my friend wanted to show anime to me.

Ghost In The Shell got me interested in transhumanism, and Stand Alone Complex introduced me to philosophy.

Oblivion inspired me to find out more about locks (because of the lock-picking minigame) but I didn't get much further than actually studying the mechanism.

Not "changed my LIFE," really, but Dennou Coil is pretty damn good. It changed the way I thought of anime.

Then, I ran into Satoshi Kon's works, and I began to really appreciate animation as an artistic medium.

Getting a Nintendo 64 got me to lose interest in playing sports, so that was pretty life changing. Not exactly for the better, but at least I learned how to pwn in Mario Kart.

Haha, I got the reference.

I really don't remember my reaction to my first N64 anymore, but I know my reaction wasn't as over the top as his. I do remember it was heavy when I picked it up to open it though.
