The 2015 Greater Toronto Area Spring Cosplay Picnic! - Sat April 25

Facebook Event Page: https://www.facebook.com/events/1684576278436391/

The photoshooting, scavenger-hunting, watermelon-smashing picnic will be back this spring! It's the same picnic that you've come to enjoy over the years. Come spend an afternoon with your fellow cospalyers socializing, playing games together, getting your photos taken and testing out your cosplays before Anime North!

For those that haven't been to a cosplay picnic before, if you enjoy the Anime, video game or comic book subcultures, then you'll have quite the enjoyable time at a cosplay picnic! It's an event where cosplayers together for an afternoon in a tranquil park to socialize and have fun. For many, cosplay picnics are an opportunity to see their friends again, since big conventions are spread far throughout the year. For newcomers, it's a way to meet new friends. So whether you're new to cosplaying or a veterman, cosplay picnics are fun for everyone!

We will be heading back to Kariya Park in Mississauga for the first cosplay picnic of the year!

Here's what to look forward to:

*A place to meet new friends, as well as hangout with some familiar ones. If you are new to the scene and need someone to break the ice, just look for the CHG hosts in name tag and we'll introduce you to some cosplayers. It'll be easy to find us!

*Photographers to take your photo in cosplay. Kariya Park is a nice park to do so. (Note: if you're a cosplay photographer and you're interested in attending or taking photos for the event, let me know and we'll add you and your website link to the list of photographer in the event description.)

*Scavenger Hunt - form a team and embark on a quest to complete the scavenger hunt. You'll be doing fun and amazing things such as taking group selfies, singing Anime tunes and finding hidden treasures. The team who places first will get a prize! (Video of the last scavenger hunt coming soon)

*A variety of board games for attendees to play, including Cards Against Humanity.

*Watermelon smashing - you get to eat the watermelon after it's all smashed and "cut" up!

*A small potluck hosted by our maids! (NOTE: bringing food is optional)

*Otaku Dance Contest!

Directions to Kariya Park

Kariya Park is located at the Mississauga city centre, right beside the Square One shopping mall:

Square One has a major GO Transit station near it, so getting to Kariya Park is relatively easy for many of you guys who live in the GTA.

The entrance of Kariya Park may be hard to find for those who haven't been there. Here's how it looks like: http://goo.gl/maps/IV2Hv

*From Toronto*

There are two ways to get to Kariya Park from Toronto:

1) TTC and MiWay: From Islington subway station in Toronto, take the 3 MiWay Bloor bus west and get off at Kariya Dr North Of Enfield Place (South Leg). Kariya Park will be across the street. Here's the Google Map showing you how to get there from Islington station: https://goo.gl/maps/uKapX

2) GO Transit: From Union station, take the Milton GO bus (21P) and get off at City Centre Drive. Keep in mind that you'll have to request to get off at City Centre Drive, since it's just a stop and not a station. Or if you don't mind walking, you can just stay on the GO Bus until you reach the Square One Bus Terminal. From City Centre Drive (or Square One Bus Terminal), walk to Kariya Park from Square One. The closest mall exit from Square One is The Bay. Here's the Google Map showing you how to get there from Union station: http://goo.gl/maps/MFIOa

*From Mississauga*

Basically any MiWay bus that stops at or near Square One will get you to Kariya Park.

*From west of Missisauga*

Take the Lakeshore West train and get off at Port Credit GO station. Then take the 19 Hurontario MiWay bus and get off at a stop close to Square One and walk to Kariya Park. Example: http://goo.gl/maps/9dXGH

*From north of Toronto*

According to Google Maps, the fastest way would be to take the subway down to Union, and taking the GO Bus there. See #2 for Toronto.

*From east of Toronto*

According to Google Maps, the fastest way would be to take the Lakeshore East Train to Union, and taking the GO Bus there. See #2 for Toronto.

*By Driving*

Depending if you're coming from the north or south, you can take the QEW or 403 to Kariya Park. Exit off Hurontario Street, and drive towards the Square One/City Centre area. Example: http://goo.gl/maps/OuXjz

There is free parking along the residential areas near the park. You can also park for free at Square One, but it is a farther walk away.

1. Due to city park bylaws, we cannot have any large props or weapons in the park. Please leave them at home and save the props/weapon replica for Fan Expo.

2. No alcohol consumption in the park.

3. Please pick up after yourself. If you make a mess, you must clean up your mess. Throw all your garbage in the trash, etc.

4. When you're playing with the board games, please keep them in good condition and do not damage them in any way.

The Summer Cosplay Picnic is FREE or pay-what-you-can. A $5 donation to help pay for things such as the watermelons, prizes and future CHG events would be appreciated, but not necessary.
