Stuck on Dark Magician

I'm working to the dark magician cosplay, male, not female. I'm stuck on the shoulder armor. The structure of it or base of it is form, light so I don't hurt so many at the end of the day, and it's covered in paper mache, because i was hoping to round out the top of it so it wouldn't be so pointed at the top. Oh! I'm doing the purple Dark Magician, not the red. I tried sanding it but the paper tore apart and it didn't look good at all. How to I get it rounded without it costing a shit load? Or what material do I use to round it out?

I don't really know much about paper mache, but maybe you can round the shape out with craft foam? My friend made her automail arm out of craft foam and it worked great.

You can get the craft foam at Walmart and it is cheap.
Conventions I Plan on Attending:
*SoDak Con 2015 * Nan Desu Kan 2014 * Anime Fargo*
Cosplays I'm Currently Working On:
* Lulu from League of Legends *Sona from League of Legends * Pilot from Farscape
