Gambit from X-Men...
Has anyone ever attempted this costume? After attending my forst con last Saturday, I've decided to try and attempt another costume for my next one in March. Gambit was always my favourite member of the X-Men so I decided to go for him, providing it won't be too hard. Does anyone know is anyone has attemped this before or has and hints or advice? Thanks for any help, Leigh.
Heres a link to a pic of the outfit I plan to attempt. http://ngwo.planetemu.net/neo-arcadi...ges/gambit.gif |

I'ze seen an Evolution-style. I'm sure that X-Men style has been done, though. Check out sites on comic cons.

Im planning to do it as soon as I get rid of the extra padding on me midsection. Somewhat personalized though probably. As Ill have to take some liberties. . . comics usually dont translate to costume especially well.

Well, I recieved a "contact" to e-mail about the spandex body suit. Heres what I mailed...
Dear Sarah. I am interested in making a costume to which the main body would be made of spandex. A friend of mine and customer of yours (Michelle Powell) recomended that I look at your site. I am very impressed with the high quality of your work, and would like to ask if it would be possible to have a quote. I have attatched a picture of the costume to this e-mail, the part I would need is the main bodysuit underneath the coat. I would also like to ask if you would be able to make the headpiece as part of the suit and also add the detail which can be seen on the picture? (the red squares running down the legs and the coloured bands at the waist and neckline) Thankyou for your help and I look forward to hearing from you, Leigh Hardman. and here's what I got back... Two things right off the bat catch my attention as possible problems with this suit. The firs tone is the color scheme. In Metallic (like Michelle's Psylocke costume) we can only get one shade of blue. I've checked with several different suppliers and they all have the same colors of metallic (I think they share a manufacturer!) and it includes only one shade of each color. However, I also did a Google search for Gambit pics and found that several of them use *silver* instead of the lighter blue for the legs and the bands at waist and chest/neck. We could do it that way. The second problem that may be encountered is the style of hood. Spandex is such that the actual *shape* of the hood may only be possible if we "outline" the openings with a non-stretchy fabric. I would definitely need custom measurements from you for the head, even if you went with a standard size. Question: do you plan to use your own hair (or the hair of whomever is in the costume!) or did you plan on adding a wig at the top of the hood? The reason is that I need to know about the top of the hood - if it needs to be open for hair to "escape" or if a closed top is wanted to add the wig on top. There are design issues at stake. All in all, I *believe* that we can do this for you. The multiple applique's on the side (the squares), the custom hood and the custom logo/design for the body are the additional costs in making this costume. I can estimate that this costume (assuming the above color scheme and hood designs can be done) would run a total of approximately $250.00 for a custom sized and designed full outfit. (minus the wig/hair) Let me know if you are interested in these options and I will get you a full quote. Thanks, Sarah I don't know the current exchange rate into British Pounds but that looks expensive! |

250 is no small amount of money, but custom costumes aren't cheap. By my memory of conversion rates, it's in the neighborhood of 120 pounds. But it's been a few years since I went to London.

I'd say that's an awesome rate for a custome costume, my friend. Gambit is also a fave character of mine, though I've lost track of him (and Rogue) over the years.
Anyhow, a good conversion site to go to is http://xe.com/ 200 bucks is about 112 pounds, so says the site. And those contacts that Cherry has...are godly. Wow.
