If you were making this, what fabric would you use?

No one answered my post on the sticky, so I'm going to try to be more direct. (I hope they dont move this post to the sticky ;~; )

She is SeeU from Vocaloid

I'm kinda a noob when it comes to fabric and stuff.

Any fabric recommendations?

I mainly curious about the shirt part. For the orange part of the shirt is patent leather okay? vinyl? I know I want it to have a shine like in the video, but I have no idea what type of fabric to use..

And I have no clue on the black part either >.<

Please recommend me good fabrics for her ;~;

Are you experienced at sewing? The shiny type fabrics tend to be harder to deal with. A lot of people use PVC for shine (super-duper shine)... or vinyl too, but they are easy to mess up. You could also probably get a shine out of other stretchy materials like spandex they use for bathing suits or some form of satin or silky material. Even brushed cotton would work... actually that might be the easiest to work with. If you aren't familiar with fabrics, my best recommendation is to go to a big fabric store (one that caters to people who make clothing if you can find one... there aren't many left) and just browse. Bring a notebook and jot down notes of types, stretch, grain, drape, what you like, what you don't like. You might even end up making a decision that day. Whatever you end up going with, make sure it is thick enough. That's a major problem I've heard of people dealing with. I hate layers so I generally go too far the other direction in terms of thickness.

I agree with Allisande said about going to a big fabric store and just look around for fabrics you like. Also don't just look at the top layer look on the back. Some fabrics have a shine on one side and matte side that you might like as well. For the thickness I agree that a nice weight would help because trust me having to cut more fabric and waist time/money on doubling fabric isn't worth it.

As someone that is also doing this cosplay I will give you a few ideas about what I am doing. For the shirt I am using an invisible zipper on the side. The skirt will be easier with this tutorial http://www.youtube.com/user/SecretLi...53/YbxUNIkc5Gw.

i wouldnt use anything synthetic when it comes to pleated skirts.
I usually feel comfortable with cotton or polyester for the skirt, or if you can find a material that is stretchy and shiny that would be good too (:

I would use a heavier weight fabric.

Polyester is synthetic, dear. I'm not sure of the top, but for the skirt I would use a heavyweight fabric such as the bottomweight variety you can find at Joann's. I think they are a blend, so the price isn't too bad [about 7.99 when it's not on sale]. You can probably find a cheaper variety of it at Fabric.com.

Okay, I'll try the top I think vinyl is pretty unforgiving. So if you still want that shine, I'd say a more matte yet still shiny bridal satin/really high quality satin.

Just an obseration, but it looks like the top changes as she sings. Kind of like a voice pattern. I'd like to second using natural fiber for most of the outfit and something of a solid weight. But I think the top panel of the jacket should be something that shimmers, possibly lined.

I do not think vinyl would look very good. there are plenty of regular fabrics that shine. Go into a fabric store and look at both sides of the fabric. Many velvety materials are shiny on the back side of the fabric.
