Working with Spandex?

Alright so. I'm not a NEW cosplayer by any means and I know how to do basic sewing by hand. I've made a couple things by hand (of course the stitching is pure shit lol). I'm going to be cosplaying Beast Boy for Ohayocon (the Cartoon Network version) and my friends who've used spandex recently say it's tough as hell to work with. Not to mention they're sewing gods. I'm getting a brother sewing machine for christmas so..here are my basic questions.

1) Since I'm a beginner, should I just buy a Zentai suit and modify it?

2) If you guys think I can handle working with spandex as a beginner, how would you go about making a custom suit for Beast Boy?

Sorry if there;s a thread for this already!!

I recommend buying a zentai suit. There's not a lot of time between Christmas and Ohayocon. I'm about to take my first stab at spandex for my next costume - I'm an advanced sewer and I'm nervous about my own learning curve on this one.

I've seen a lot of people in the suits - they look great.
