Zombie Apocalypse Survivor

Hi Y'all,

I slapped this costume together for halloween (took my younger sisters Trick or Treating.) I don't like how this turned out, and I'm planning on making a V2.0 for Megacon in Orlando in February. Figured I would get your input on how to improve upon the prototype. Oh, and anyone know how to make blood that won't turn purple on a blue shirt?

Well... what kind of blood did you use? Store bought or homemade?

I would suggest dirtying yourself up a bit more overall: especially the pants. You should look very similar to an actual zombie, grit wise (you just won't be rotting and shambling about.).

He's a survivor so he shouldn't be rotting xD But dirty I agree on because frankly, when is there time for showers when you're bashing zombies?

Hahaha. Perhaps my phrasing was off, but that was meant to read that he should look like a zombie minus all the rot.

Homemade. I used this recipe: http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Fake-Blood#Non-toxic_blood

Ah I see... xD I misread it a bit too. Brain is too tired to comprehend lately xD

What if you used acrylic paint mixed with a textile medium (or maybe just a thinning agent) on your shirt? You can mix up the appropriate colour (try a rusty brown, for oxidized blood), and then splatter it on, and voila! Should stay more blood-coloured than purple.

Corn flour, golden syrup, red and blue dye. That usually works for me with blood. Another recipe I have used was red jelly crystals, mayple syrup, water, and whatever dye needed. It makes a more gritty blood, but smells great.

I think the reason the blood looks purple is that it might have been a bit thin. Try using less water, or a thicker/more opaque recipe. Also, don't be afraid to keep layering on the blood until it really soaks into the spot.

It's nontraditional, but for this zombie outfit I used Liquitex acrylic paint and gradually mixed in water until I had the right consistency. (It's also what I used on my skin and in my hair. It comes off skin pretty easily with soap and water but is a nightmare to get out of hair).

You might want to get some pants you don't mind getting dirty, too... if you're killing zombies, the blood is going to get everywhere, including your pants and skin. I also second the idea of looking a bit grittier overall.

Hey guys, I ended up not going to megacon. There was a conflict and I chose the Battle of Olustee Reenactment over it. My other passion is history. I hoping to go NEXT year though *fingers crossed* I definitely going to do this costume for Halloween.

I gathered some pix to use as inspiration...and then my hard drive crashed *GARRRRRRRRRR!*

i agree with what everyone else said after playing too many left for dead for the past days with my bro the survivors are indeed dirty so it would be a good idea to dirty up your pants and shirt alittle and adding more blood to the shirt would work as well and adding more blood to the baseball bat because it looks too clean to have been bashing zombies heads opens and you could possibly make your face alittle dirty as well
