Well yesterday at work i had a woman cuss me out at work lol
here's the situatuion v

So im working at mcdonalds. About two days ago i guess the Mc donalds corporation or whatever decided to put the appx. amount of calories on the menu right next to the respected item. (like for example: Big Mac= 500 calories idk just a example.) Any way its just me and another person doing front counter. I was changing the menu board to put the new prices that also had the calorie count on it. So in comes this woman. I get off my ladder and I greet her with a friendly "hello, welcome to Mc donalds; what can i get for you today?" So shes proceeds to order with no problems, then when shes almost done ordering she raised her head and looked at the menu. Then faster than a New York minute she went from being nice to completely crazy with a mix of angry. Then this happened V

Crazy lady :"WHY did YOU put that there?!"

Me: (very VERY confused) uh put what where?

Crazy lady: How stupid do you have to be putting the calories on the menu?!

Me: I beg your pardon?....

Crazy Lady: My daughter has anorexia/bulimia you ass hole, now shes going to come in here and count calories or throw up her food and were trying to stop her from doing that!
I need you to get your manager because im not standing for this bull shit!!! Get them NOW!!!


~note that im calm through out the entire thing, i did not argue with her~

Me: alright, gets manager

Manager: Whats the problem?

Crazy lady: repeats argument about how im personally going to cause further problems for her daughter because im doing my job put the new menus on the menu board that list the amount of caloric intake each item has. Along with a few racial epithets about yours truly.

Manager: Okay, you need to leave. NOW, we do not tolerate that type of behavior @ Mc donalds. Take your business elsewhere.

Crazy Lady: *super red from crazy anger * and storms off and out.

TL: DR: basically a crazy lady got pissed at me for putting the new menu that has caloric intake for each specific item because apparently that adds more fuel to her daughters eating disorder, even though i was just doing what i was told to do which was changing the menu for company standards. It is not my fault that i have to put it up there, and i don't feel responsible for her daughters problem because it is HER problem and i do not know her or plan to know her.

*sigh* wish we had a union @ mcdonalds, that way i could rightfully walk away lol, thank

I agree with this:Calorie counting can be very triggering for people who have eating disorders now or in the past. For some people the mere mention of calories can be a trigger and cause more disordered behaviors. I wish we put less emphasis on calorie counting and more emphasis on teaching our children (who then grow into our hopefully eating disorder free adults) how to pick healthy food, how to pick less healthy food, and to appreciate their bodies regardless.

That said, this mother is expecting the world to shape itself around her life and it simply cannot. Her daughter is in a bad place and needs care and attention to get better, part of that is teaching her how to handle situations in which weight and food are demonized. It isn't right that she will have to live in a world that's incredibly skewed, but she must learn how to divide herself from this in order to recover.

Her mother knows fully well that you're just an underpaid register worker doing what you're told. She knows fully well that you have nothing to do with the matter, that you didn't decide to shove calorie counts in her face when she just wants a cheeseburger. She knows that, but she took her pain and anger out on the nearest source.

What she would have to say could otherwise have been a very reasonable and intelligent discussion on why fast food restaurants even feel the 'need' to present calorie counts in the first place. But she likely isn't in a place to handle this and instead took it out on the nearest object in her path which unfortunately was you.

I am sorry you had to be in the path of her anger.

That's pretty presumptuous and inaccurate.

An anorexic girl should be eating whatever wants and taught that it's okay for her to do so because nothing is wrong with food. She should be taught how to pick out healthy food, and how to be okay with not so healthy food.

What I was implying was the poor nutritional value of the food might have an impact on her body, which is used to not getting any nutrition at all.

She should eat, yes, but to me it feels like she is taking Tylenol 3's for a minor headache.

Edit - NOT to compare a minor headache to something serious like Anorexia and Bulimia.

Toshirua- I'm so sorry that you had to handle that... But doesn't the woman know that practically all fast food places have to list the nutritional value now? I believe they started doing this because believe it or not some people sued for mcdonalds making them or their children "overweight"

I agree with that lady in a sense it does discourage some people from eating that should be eating. But fat people, aka people who blame someone else for their waist line, made a big enough fuss and sued enough time, then the health freaks got their way so not much of a choice. God it's so bad that some fast food places stopped serving chocolate milk. CHOCOLATE MILK! Not to mention toys are a liability. God what happened to telling their kids no and making them eat a proper diet. This is America land of the free and our restaurants should be free too. However do I take these feelings and fling it at some helpless cashier or waitress? Nope, if I want to vent to the company I'll either email the comment, or call the number and comment to a person who is paid to listen and take that type of abuse (though you still shouldn't).

Plus when I see the calories I just want to eat the thing with the most count because it has got to be good.

Really I don't like McDonald's because it's hardly allergy friendly for me(I am allergic to the oil they use, and I can't/shouldn't eat lettuce anymore).

But use the race card is another thing. Though I admit I have told more then a few times "Learn the fucking language and listen". I would like to order my friend a number 4 and fish filet without the urge to bash my head on the counter tempting it.

(I know I risk saying fat people and again I express I only use that term for people who blame their waist line on others. There are kinder terms I use for people who for some reasons can't help but be who they are. In fact I don't think a persons size is ever an issue with me unless they start using it against someone/company... with the exception of my boyfriend who is fatty fat fat until further notice because I am angry with him)
