Yeah, I had that a few times at Sears. We had this huge sale on a particular earring for Black Friday. One woman in particular stood out- she brought the catalogue/magazine with her and asked for the pair on the second day of the sale (they'd sold out several hours ago despite it being a weeklong sale). I tell her "Sorry, we sold out, it was while supplies last and a LOT of people came yesterday (seriously, we had TWO HUNDRED PAIRS and they were gone in not even two days)"... and she throws the magazine on the counter and yells "Well don't print such misleading ads, then!" I was like "EXCUSE ME? MAGAZINES ARE LAID OUT AND PRINTED WEEKS IN ADVANCE AND WE CANNOT PULL EVERY ONE OFF THE SHELF BECAUSE WE'VE RUN OUT OF ONE ITEM."

I could probably write a book about my theories as to why people assume an entitled attitude when being helped by customer service workers, but it would probably be a pretty crappy book.
No matter, I think it comes from a combination of a few things. The idea of being 'always right' being leftover from a bygone era, I'd say the 1950's/post-WWII because that was when people were trained to be obedient to media and commercialism. Being a good consumer was how you showed that you were a good American citizen. So the expectation that the consumerist realm will make all your dreams come true has stuck around, but the actual expectations for consumers to behave obediently is gone. Therefore, retail in the modern area does not actually have mutual respect between employee and customer built into its business model, because people have retained their expectations but lost the sensibility. On the one hand, it means we're not still all God-Fearing xenophobes who do whatever the TV and Radio tell us is necessary to keep ourselves strong. But on the other hand, we're now all really classist asses to anyone working a job where they are supposed to help us facilitate our daily functions like procuring food and clothing. Add in the fact that people's expectations of their shopping experience are completely isolated from how businesses actually generate and supply their items, and you've got the hellish image of customer service that happens today. People think they are special and above the rules and realities that you are enforcing, and if cornered, they will take it out on you. I can't say a lot about my current job because my employers have very clear social media policies and I'd like to be cautious, but simply put, entitlement will happen in ANY field where it is your job to deal with someone that constitutes a 'customer'. A N Y W H E R E. I am very fortunate to be working a job where the business have built policies that keep their staff feeling empowered and in control 99.9% of the time, and protect us from ANYONE, whether they are customers or co-workers, that make us feel bullied or harassed. But everytime I walk through a typical service environment and remember that most places pay the bare minimum required by law and treat abuse (sometimes even the legal definition for assault) as a completely normal thing, I cringe.

Argh, so for the past few months I've been stressing over starting my own business. a friend approached me about it and was willing to do the investing and I've spent countless hours and sleepless nights going over information and equipment I would need and breaking down a timeline to get things done. And, while some things have been started on and set in motion I get a final email with his last minute jitters, pretty much starting off with "How do I know you aren't going to fuck me over?" ad with questions of "Why won't anyone else help you with your business?"
WHY?! Because I eat, sleep, breathe my business. It's all I know and all I've known since high school and have been working on and perfecting and learning about every single day. I'm the one, and the only one, who has to worry about EVERYTHING. and everything is based on deadlines and turnaround rates and time frames. And as for why my other friends aren't helping me out or investing in me is because they more or less take advantage of my skills. Yes, I am good at what I do, but don't expect me to drop everything I'm doing every single time and put your thins ahead of already paying clients. Not only that, I can't even get my friends to hand out my business cards, let alone write a quick review. /RAGE

I assume you're talking about the suing Level-5 over controlling characters with a touch screen?

Not just that, I'm talking still about them taking down people youtube channel left and right too.
Here's a video explaining it all. If Sega keeps this up 2013 is going to be their last year.

People don't seem to understand the concept of 3 or 4 way stop signs a lot of times! At least I expect it from people now... :/

...my anxiety is kicking my ass.
I don't recognize a number, no way in hell am I answering it. Simple as that. Talking makes me nervous like you wouldn't believe. This results in missing my mother's calls several times since I didn't have her work number, which means she'll be pissed off that I didn't answer her. On top of that...nothing I do seems to please anyone so now I just don't know why I bother.

I totally understand you there. Though, I don't necessarily get nervous, but I'm definitely not comfortable with it. Something, I'm working on.
