I think the issues several of us have with the forum is that it's deviated drastically from 'fitness' and features more people talking about how to basically starve themselves 'just enough'. People are giving medical and health advice who have no place to be doing so
, people who are encouraging unhealthy behaviors and promoting particular acts that as a whole are extremely detrimental to ones health.
Their most popular thread for like a month was a 'weight loss race'. Weight Loss Races have nothing to do with fitness and promote the participants dropping enormous amounts of weight in extremely short time periods using equally damaging means of doing so. That's incredibly dangerous and can be extremely harmful to anyone who participates in such a thing.
My problem is stuff like this. Not with fitness or weight loss. If that forum was actually about fitness
I'd be comfortable posting looking for advice on how to ease back pain. But I know that it isn't about anything vaguely fitness related and I am bothered that Cosplay.com is hosting a forum encouraging people to participate in harmful activities for the sake of being the 'Biggest Loser' Cosplay-style.
Fitness is super great and everyone should have an opportunity to participate in whatever form of fitness they want to regardless of income level or abilities. Sharing advice with others on what particular choices work best for your life is great! Some people want to change their habits and include more activities or better-for-ya foods and people have a right to discuss that. But that forum seems to have little to no moderation going on and as such it's just a barren wasteland of pseudo-nutritionists passing out advice they don't have a place to be doing so. That kind of stuff is harmful and can lead to people being hurt and getting sick through that kind of mentality.
I guess if it came down to what I would like to see happen there is this: More moderation in keeping the forum free of wanna-be doctors, armchair diagnosis, and shoddy nutrition information so that the forum is a healthy place to discuss fitness and weight loss.
Because right now it isn't and I know there are chubby little 13 year old's who go there and read all of this stuff and take it to heart and it's going to hurt them because now they think something is gross and wrong with them and if they don't follow this anonymous persons crackpot nutrition advice they're going to be fat and ugly forever and no one will like them.
I hope that clears things up.
