That's a good development. At least you know that the actual staff members are concerned. It's always hard to deal with volunteers because while they do represent the company they volunteer for they don't at the same time. It can be a grey area in that as a volunteer they are not really staff members and may not be held to the same expectations,

Hopefully you will have an enjoyable time regardless of what happens with the volunteer.

The tragedy of this is that she probably thought she was just being playful. I am curious as to what you blacked out in your quotation of the Facebook conversation though.

I think we've all had times at some point where we thought we where being playful or funny but ended up not realizing what we've said is hurtful.

The important part is that when it's been brought to your attention you've said something unintentionally mean you sincerely apologize and explain you where trying to be playful or funny and did not intend for anything malicious.

A particular blog I follow on tumblr was having a discussion with a black woman who posted a picture of the makeup isle at a Walmart (I recognize the layout of the shelves) as an example of how white-washed the beauty industry is. Someone sent in an 'ask' to the blog I was following claiming something to the effect of "Well pale girls have trouble finding makeup too".

....that's just silly. XD In pretty much every makeup store there's 50 shades of pale, though my African American friend doesn't even wear makeup because it's such a bother to find a shade of foundation that looks good on her.

That's the point entirely.

The makeup industry is grossly white-washed from the advertisements to the actual products. Which is why it's just mind-boggling that someone would compare their struggle to find foundation to the struggles of racism.

Try closer to $30.

The drug store is where the majority of women will go and what the majority can afford, makeup in a wide range of shades should be available to women at the drugstore and not just expensive brands.

Also keep in mind that powder makeup like that does not work for all skin types, I have very dry skin and no matter how much moisturizer I'd put on prior to mineral powder foundation it would just end up flaking off and looking horrible.

Women shouldn't be forced into buying expensive makeup just because drugstore brands don't feel like making a range of shades to suit all skin colors.


And that's fine that YOU think it's worth it because you clearly have the income to do so. But you're not considering that for an enormous part of us spending $30 on foundation alone is simply out of the question. A big chunk of the United States lives below the poverty line and I can promise you that $30 mineral foundation is not on their list of must haves.
