I'm about to head out and make a simple cardboard base and paper mache it till its a helmet. My concern so far is more of the horns, but I figure I can worry about that later. Thats regarding the helmet though.

I'm thinking about being cheap and using my underarmer to be the leather chest guard for the studded armor set. If only I was better at leather working. Strips is one thing, a vest? gaaaaaaaah.

I also tried talking my girlfriend into cosplaying Aela the Huntress, but sadly she saw the awesomeness of the savior's hide and thats her goal now XD.

Lastly, anyone doing a Dovahkiin must learn more than Fus Ro Dah

I too am working on a Dvahkiin cosplay, based off of the trailer. I am actually not using leather, its too expensive and its a completely new set of skills for me to learn. BUT. I am using upholstery vinyl. It looks like leather, but it can sewed with a normal machine and just easier to work with.

The chest piece isn't really a vest... to me, it seems more like a sleeveless tee shirt, maybe even wife beater-esque as a base. Then of course all the straps, studs and armor plates.

I'm about to get started on the helm sometime this week for a friend. I was gonna make it from a pepakura file that I got from here http://www.propzone.be/freestuff.html. Then from there resin and fiberglass at least. But not sure since I'm just making the base in paper. As for the horns I'm not sure what we're gonna about that. My friend wants to go find some real horns but we'll see.

Also everyone good luck with your projects. It's gonna be great to see some Skyrim cosplayers. Can't wait to see to see how it turns out.

Before I forget, here's my progress so far on my Iron Helmet:

Like I say there, I screwed up on the horns and still need to finish the back, but other than that, its turning out great.

I did a layer of Plaster Wrap over a "contraption" I made relative to my head size. No pics yet, and i still need to add a few more layers, then carve the stuff in the middle out, but I'm excited thus far.

Small update to keep the Dovahkiin alive! The first layer looks like crap, but its my crap and I love it. Amazingly enough I guessed it right and the helm fits. Just need to eventually add more to the front bottom so it reaches jaw length, and cut out the eye holes. Then lots of layers.

Any idea's for horns yet?

I suppose you could probably make them out of paper mache, or alternatively, find a viking helmet at Party City of something and saw those off to use as a base? This guy did this whole thing using it as a base but you could probably just use some pieces if you wanted to make it more from "scratch." Even if you did paper mache it might be nice to use something like that as the mold.

Can't wait to see all your guys' costumes, I'm going to be working on something from Skyrim myself, though not the Dovahkiin so...I'll have to make another thread for that I guess :P Heh.

Nice! I'd take a pic of my helm thus far, but i keep getting distracted and need to add some layers first. I however did managed to find something for my horns while at Joanns. Off tomorrow, so I'll hopefully get some work done on it. I also got the fur bought. Just gotta start doing the leg work.

If you guys figure out how to do the horns for a Dovahkiin cosplay i would love to know! Got an idea of how to do them, but my idea is not as sturdy as i would like it to be.

I'm going to be trying a foam reef today. Cut down the middle, then whittle away at it until its the right size and shape for my helm. If I can get them on today, I'll take some pics and put them up of what I have so far.

Side note, I'm loving how many people on youtube are doing covers of the bard songs from the game. Makes me anticipate Katsucon that much more now >_<;;;

and progress!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...222_194638.jpg

I'm iffy on the horns, but right now my focus is to finish and enjoy how far I've come. So far I've put so much more effort into this one, and despite its offness I think it'll hold a certain place in my heart.

If the horns don't get my approval, I think I'll just cover them with something, then plaster over and see if that thickness is more to my liking. Maybe some more whittling...

the helmet is looking good. I would say make the horns taper a bit more at the end. they are thicker at the helmet and get smaller towards the end. and also you could carve into the horns to make it look segmented. otherwise good start.

Im working on my helmet now. if i get any progress i'll post some pics.

Im taking my warhammer Ork helmet and reforging it into my iron helmet. Im useing an old Baseball Helmet cut off the brim and the ear covers and gonna put plastic "armor" plates on the back and face.
