Freestanding collar issues

So I was trying to make a mock up of This cape and everything seem to work out okay, except the collar

The collar is pretty big, and I've had some work with collars before (Euphemia Li Britannia ) but that one also had neck for support.

I tried to use the same method of interfacing, but the collar fans out really badly... Kind of like This I can give some more references, because it stands pretty much straight up and doesn't fan out....

Can someone pleaasseee help me I'm not sure what to do

More references
Reference 1
Reference 2

I was thinking maybe changing the general construction, but I wasn't sure what to change it to...

I got a collar to stand straight up by lining it with plastic cross stitch canvas. The stuff comes in a roll, so it curls around your neck but won't bend vertically. You might also try cardboard, although that makes it unwashable.

Use a stiffer interfacing. Let it sit below the seam to keep stability. Add a little bit of plastic boning to the front lapels if you need addition support after that.
