The ...monogatari series are super underrated. I LOVE Bakemonogatari and Nisemonogatari.
As for manga: Zombiepowder!!! AMAZING series!

Well, I'm not sure if we're counting the "was popular but now lagging" anime's and I'm also not sure what's popular right now... So I'll list the one's I like.
Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro (Demon Detective Nogami Neuro). The anime and the manga seriously branch off from each other but both tell pretty decent stories. I enjoyed it most from the strange angles, weird characters, and torture play. Deadman Wonderland. Still need to watch the anime but I've hit mangafox's latest update for the manga. Excel Saga. Loooved the crazy anime, still have to finish the manga. Princess Jellyfish. Read the manga, need to watch the anime. Yotsuba &. Love this manga. Don't think it's an anime yet. Tactics. Manga was/is (not finished) awesome. The anime... deviated in tone and art style and not in a good way. Tegami Bachi (Letter Bee). From the manga I have it's currently gorgeous and more interesting than most shoujo manga. Dramacon. OMG THIS MANGA NEEDS MORE LOVE. Seriously, it has excellent, clean art, a brilliant, tight story, and realistic characters. I love this manga. I've read it four times and it's not my favourite genre! Baccano!. Just a fun romp through the old times. Paradise Kiss. Need to find the manga but I watched the anime. Brilliant. On my MUST READ/WATCH list: Haibane Renmei Mawaru Penguindrum Tiger & Bunny (in the middle of) Drrrrrr! (trying to find the rest of) Monster Princess Tutu Steins;Gate Kino's Journey Puella Magi Madoka Magica Persona (played Persona 4 and loved it. STILL need to watch the anime) And touchmon got me hooked on no.6 with the Inukashi cosplay. I'm currently loving the manga. That's all I can recall off the top of my head. There's probably more but I don't remember ![]()

I read the Hana Yori Dango manga it was so great! Ive been meaning to watch the live action series I just never get around to it sadly. @Fish-and-Chips-Yum: I have heard of Ultra Maniac I believe I saw the first episode of the anime. How is it? I cant really remember what it was about..Ive heard that its good though. @DireKitty: Im very happy that Im not the only one that thought that Zetsuen is pretty much like Guilty Crown in a way.

loving what I'm seeing of Zetsuen no Tempest anime the manga started in 2009 so in a sense Guilty Crown is a poor imitation of it. lol

Kuragehime and Kaiji are underrated animes, it's probably cause they both don't have cute moe characters you get in anime these days.
I have to disagree with this. The gatari series are very popular, there's a reason why it has multiple seasons and a movie. Well since it is from Shaft the ones also behind the whole Puella Magi another popular anime. |

Maybe I'm biased because it's my favorite, but this anime is far to underrated: Black Jack.
It's a Tezuka classic! It's quite long, but really good if you're into medical drama and stuff like that(i bet if you're someone that liked Dr. Who you'd like it). Sorry, I am just really obsessed with that anime. ;;c:

Tegami Bachi. The ending left a lot of questions unanswered, but the story was really interesting and the visuals were beautiful.
Bakuman: Done by the same two people that made Death Note. I read the first few chapters of the manga and all the chapters that SJA had. I haven't seen much of the anime, but, from what I've read, it's one of my favorite manga ever. The story is really good and I love the art style. |

Grave of the Fireflies is pretty underrated in that it seems more well known by critics than most anime fans, and yet it's hard to dispute its place not only as one of the greatest anime of all time, but one of the greatest films of world cinema, period.
