Cosplay - Roxas being taller than Axel - would it look funny?
Right, here I am posting a new thread......I don't know where else to go to get honest opinions from other cosplayers.
So since platform boots with heels any bit taller than like 3" are out, I have a question. Would it look strange if Axel and Roxas were like....the same height? Three inch heels will make me about 5'5" - 5'6", and I wanna cosplay Axel. My sister, who is naturally 5'6" wants to do Roxas....would you find this strange? I shouldn't be so insecure about being short. |

I wouldn't worry about it. There are so many cosplayers that don't have the exact physical features (eye color, skin color, height, body shape, etc.) of the character they're doing and still look good.

In my opinion for my own cosplay, it might bother me (ex: my mrs Lovett is always taller than me). But that doesn't really stop me from cosplaying. I either just find a shorter Lovett or try to do what I can to look taller in photos (have my cosplay partner stand behind me, lean down a bit, or do a pose where it is difficult to determine the height of each person).
So don't worry about it too much

Yeah, I wouldn't really worry about it. In pictures with creative posing no one will notice.
You should still cosplay who you want. But it would bother me in your place, but that's just a personal peeve, most people don't really care.

Agreeing with LluviaSarcasm on the posing.
I did a cosplay of Popura from Working!! before. She's supposed to be a super short character and although I was the shortest cosplayer in my Working!! group, the difference in height wasn't quite enough. I wore the flatest shoes I had and my Inami, who was just a little taller than me, wore something with a little more heel. For posing, I always bent down a little in a way that matched the character. I think it worked out pretty well. XD |

One of my friends will be Hyakkimaru and I'll be Dororo, and I'm 1,63 while my friend is 1,52, so...we'll have to deal with it xD. I say don't worry too much, it's better for each person to cosplay the character they like.

If your costume is creative and awesome, I don't think people would be looking at your height ,but at how cool your cosplay is. I even cosplayed Viewtiful Joe (a short character) when I'm 6'2, so no worries.

i wear completely flat shoes. they're ninja shoes so the soles are all but non-existent. the Kurama i go with is taller than me, but since he needs to be around 6 foot and my partner is 5'8, we're using elevating shoes. tallmenshoes.com is full of them, but you can find them for cheaper. i'd suggest using shoes like that rather than platform boots, as platform boots can seriously ruin the look of an outfit. try creative poses that make them look taller and you shorter. dynamic poses always look awesome (like someone hunched down a bit as if prepared to fight or something).

If I had an Axel who was the same height it shouldn't matter, especially if you are just walking around. I'm part of a Young Justice (the animated series) group and our Robin is the tallest, he has to really crouch down to reach the rest of us lol.
When posing for photos some photographers like to get the whole body in, so the Roxas can crouch down on one knee slightly in front of Axel, this can also slightly hide the fact Axel is wearing platforms or heels. Also this pose shows levels and is dynamic. If you have props, this allows you to showcase them since if they were at the same level it is, visually, slightly "busy." I've seen a few Sora/Riku pairs do a similar pose or Sora sits on the floor and is flanked by Riku and Kairi.

yeah. when i went to ohayocon this year i have seen many cosplays of people who were taller then the real characters. i don't think it matters as long as you are having fun. i mean i am only 4'11" and i cosplayed as Terra Brandford had heels and wore them all day (ouch!) but i still had tons of fun ^^
