does anyone go to conventions to "hook-up"

Well I hope I put this in an at least semi-appropriate area. I was wondering about how many people go to conventions in hopes of getting a girlfriend or boyfriend, to have a one night stand, to go on a date, etc. Last year at animazement my friend got hit on a few times and even asked to lunch by a Guy. I will admit I was pretty jealous. Anyone care to answer?

I can't speak for others but I'm not going to cons to strictly "hook up" with someone. It's more of a bonus kind of thing to me and they mostly end up being like vacation romances as opposed to one night stands or going one little date.

I had a con friend that went just for the sex. Needless to say, we've fallen out of touch.

I usually go to conventions to have fun. Since I'm timid, I'm not the type of person that would hit on a girl. I mean, if I met that right girl, that would be great, but I find it best not to expect that. Though sometimes, I wish that more of the conventions I went to had speed dating.

xD I think it would be very interesting to go to a convention that had speed dating.

Its about as interesting as seeing 50 guys trying to get the attention of 2 girls.
A good comedy

Too be on topic: Yes, some people do. When you have a bunch of awkward low self esteem nerds in one place that are easy targets for experienced players, yeah, they are going to take advantage of the situation

There are definatly people who go to conventions with that intention...Which personally I find rather disgusting. It's one thing to meet someone at a con that you actually connect with and think 'Hey, maybe this could work' but people who go just to get some ass are disturbing.

I know people that do. Personally, I've never hit on anyone at a con. Rather, I go to cons to be around people. The environment at cons, more so the concerts imo, is much more exciting than my day-to-day monotony.

If that is the primary goal I find with some people it usually backfires.

Funny story. One guy I knew who doesn't cosplay or even go to conventions was interested in going with me one year. I asked him what he planned on doing and he said something along the lines of "I am gonna go meet some women". I didn't think anything of it and wasn't really concerned since I am usually doing my own thing. Saturday night at the con he tells me he had been going up to different female cosplayers asking for their phone number, if they want to get a drink at the hotel bar, and giving compliments like "You lookin pretty sexy in that costume". Then he tells me that he had an exact number of girls who rejected him which was over 100 and then followed up by saying "they all had boyfriends, even the fat ones".

I also overheard one girl actually did give him her phone number. However when he called it later it ended up being for some rejection hotline.

There's about a million other places to "pick up chicks." Why an "ANIME" convention?

Well obviously some geeks are wanting to 'hook up' at cons, otherwise speed dating wouldn't be popping up at the conventions now a days.. I see nothing wrong with it, just don't get all pissy if/when you get rejected.
