Hello fellow Wisconsinite!
I am also very new to cosplay and this site!
What I do to look up conventions arround the area is arround the top of this site there is a conventions button you can click on and see all of the conventions. I look up the building, get the Address, and look up on Mapquest how far the convention is away. There is a convention in Wisconsin, No Brand Con, in Eau Claire. If I go to a convention it will not be to that one though since it is 4 hours away.
You can also go to conventions in Chicago, which are much closer for me. There are two, Wizard World Chicago, and Anime Central.
It depends on how far you are willing to travel to get to a convention. I live in Janesville so conventions in Illinois would be closer for me.
I hope I am at least some help!

RB: I live in Milwaukee actually more like Oak Creek. I swear I've posted on like fifty different Wisconsin cosplay threads, but I don't think any has really tried to put a group together. Most I know of live in the south west part of the state, at least ones on this site.

Heh, there's nothing going on in Wisconsin. I've lived there for 18 years and GenCon was the only thing the state had going for it... until Milwaukee decided it didn't want to be fat and nerdy anymore and just settled with fat.

ACEN is your best bet, along with Youmacon, Anime Iowa and Anime Detour. Those are the closest "Big-Cons" you'll find, with a smattering of start-ups around.

I can't say much because I'm up in Minnesota right now.

Go Brewers!

I'm in Wisconsin, too. ^.^ And also in the MIlwaukee area. (Technically Menomonee Falls, but whatever. =P)
I only go to Acen and Reactor in Chicago, since they're closer to me than NoBrand, but I know people that go there, too. It's kinda hard finding cosplayers in Wisconsin, but we exist! I've actually met a few in school. (Not to mention attempted to convert friends into cosplayers. >.<) But there aren't any Milwaukee cosplay groups that I'm really aware of... Although it would be great if there were!

(And I might be making the trip out to Anime Iowa this year. If my ride and hotel pull through.)

Hi folks! Instead of starting a new thread I thought I'd look for the most recent Wisconsin cosplay thread and hijack. Apologies.

I, too, have seen threads like this for WI people pop up and die, because no one really puts anything together. Well, no more. After talking with other people about "wouldn't it be nice to have a costuming club or an ICG chapter or something?" I decided to just go and start one.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/macscostume/

The Madison Area Costuming Society is meant to cover all of southern Wis, though we're headquartered here because I live here. And because there are a LOT of cosplayers in Madison. Seriously. A lot of people who are on staff at Detour, Iowa, and Convergence live here and/or are going to school here. There are all kinds of geek things to do besides anime cons. Everyone's welcome to join the list just to keep up on things, though it will be a discussion list as well. The first meeting is slated for late October and we'll see where it goes from there.

Also, there is a thread in the Other Cons forum about Geek-kon, which is a free con on the UW campus Oct 6 and 7. Plus, you Milwaukee folks ought to get excited that CostumeCon 2010 is going to be in Milwaukee. They won the bid for it this spring. CostumeCon is awesome, and not only am I going, I plan to compete at world level there. So, just so you know we're not totally ignored in this corner of the Midwest.

Wisconsin you say, home of Brett Favre, cheese, and Brett Favre? I need a date first, then I'll give a fellow wisconsinite an answer.
