Misty (pokemon) Wig

I'm thinking about redoing my Misty Cosplay. Last time I didn't have a wig and this time I would like one. My problem is, if I get a short one, I'm afraid the meshing underneath will show. Would getting a long wig and cutting it, using the extra material to create a weft be better?

I'm thinking about this one or one like it.

Since her hair is spiky a wig like the punky would work well. Arda has a few styles that would probably translate well without showing much, if any, undermesh since they're designed to be spiked and styled weirdly.

Since its also a weird side ponytail and doesnt actually pull up all of her hair, a wig like this with wefts added for the spikey ponytail would work well

and a good tutorial for adding pigtails/ponytails to wigs that just seem to come out of nowhere like mistys.
