American Cosplay in Japan

Me and a couple friends are planning on going to Japan right after graduation....early June. And I was planning on cosplaying at Yoyogi on Sunday.
Then I started thinking if it was okay to or not. Besides the fact of being totally overwhelmed by coslaying in a different country, I though, maybe I shouldn't, they might be offended somehow. You know, like its only them who can cosplay there. So I just wanted to know if American cosplay is alright in Yoyogi or will me and my friends be looked at in disgust, like posers, or outsiders, or will we be welcomed and smiled open? Because I just really want to have fun conflict. Any help or suggestions would be very helpful. Thank you.

P.S. I'm not sure if this was the right place to post this, but it seemed so to me. Sorry if it isn't.

I`m assuming you`re talking about Yoyogi park.
Since it`s open to the general public you`d be looked at oddly anyways.

Me personally, I wouldn`t cosplay at Yoyogi Park. I don`t know how people get this idea that Yoyogi Park = Cosplay but it`s more of a Gothic/Lolita area. (True, some people take Gothic lolita for cosplay -but it`s actually just a fashion) Last time I saw a foreigner in Yoyogi park I spotted a goth-fairy and a Ninja in the midst of the lolitas. You would stand out a lot if you cosplayed (unless you`re doing some V-kei cosplay; then you wouldn`t stand out)

Try going to Cosplay events in Japan -there`s always at least 10 events a month over here :3 There are free-genre cosplay events and I`m sure you can join those -you`ll find harry potter cosplays :3

If you want to do private photoshoots at nice places in Japan, you can actually rent places for 1-2 hours or so for a decent price.

Hope I`m helping you if not I`m sorry ^^;

Btw: There`s foreigner lolis in Harajuku/Yoyogi so don`t worry :3
My friends are non-Japanese and they dress in lolita too :3 (I have purikuras! :3)

It is just like in the US. If you cosplay to a mall here or in Japan, you will be stared at and get dirty looks/remarks.

You need to do it in the right setting, so a con or a different cosplay event would be suitable for cosplay.
