Ringo Oginome-Please Critique!

Hi all!

This is my first ever costume with a sailor collar, and I worked my butt off on it! Please feel free to critique it, as I will remake it in the future!

I think you did well with a lot of the little details of the costume! I looked up some pics of this character on google and it looks like the skirt she wears actually has pleats in it and looks more flowy and less tight.

Your top looks great though!

Also in the pics I saw of her she looks like she has light brown straight hair with bangs, your natural hair seems to be a darker brown and curly. I think you may have been fine without a wig if you had used a flat iron on your hair, If you didn't want to do that I bet you could find a wig online that would work well. Even if you found a wig that was longer then you needed it but had the right type of bangs you could probably go get it styled at a salon.

Overall your costume looks great

The only problem I have is the skirt; the skirt should have box pleats and what I can tell from your costume its only a pencil skirt. The skirt sits on her waist, not the thigh.

Also the tie; should be a lot shorted I believe. I find its way to large and covers alot of the front of the costume. Its an accessory.

I would avoid using ribbon for the fuku next time; ribbon is a bit to sheer for my liking and makes the costume looks a bit cheep. (Not that I am saying!) But that is just a personal tweek.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll probably put pleats in the skirt next time. The problem is it doesn't have much fabric in the skirt area, so I'd only be able to fit a few pleats. Also, what is better than ribbon on a sailor collar? I'd love to know for future cosplays.

Traditional uniform middy blouses with ribbon on them, the ribbon is sewn down both edges (not down the center) and grosgrain ribbon is standard as it hold up to washing better. Grosgrain ribbon is the kind with the ridges that looks the same on both sides.

Are you talking about just modifying the skirt you have? Because it would be much easier just to make a new one that has the pleats and waistband. The current skirt won't look right with pleats, and definitely doesn't have enough fabric.

Also, instead of ribbon for the trim, use something like bias tape. It's matte, and will make it look much more like uniform.
