Why go to anime conventions?

Hey everybody I am writing a persuasive paper which is trying to persuade people to attend an anime convention at least once in there life so I was wanting to know what other peoples opinions are, why do you cosplay or what would you tell someone if you were trying to convince them to attend an anime convention

It is much more fun than being kicked in the head repeatedly by women wearing power suits and stiletto heels.

1. You don't have to worry about being alone because you already have at least one common interest with everyone there, so conversation is easier.
2. Meet celebrities (voice actors mostly)
3. There's a rave
4. You can buy pretty much anything, even swords.
5. You can learn new things about your interests at panels, or just find out other people's views or opinions on something you like
6. Charity auctions (sometimes)
7. Play video games or board games for free
8. If you have no friends to play card games with this would be your chance to
9. You're bound to see at least one character you like
10. Conventions give you a reason to travel (Otherwise I would've never gone to Baltimore)
11. Find friends or even romance
12. You can win prizes for various contests
13. Sometimes free food
14. You can pretty much do anything that'd be considered weird anywhere else
15. You can cosplay as anyone you want or even be the opposite gender for a day

It's not a real rave.

Also not all cons have them (some also get really annoyed if you call it a rave and not a dance). Anime Boston used to have one but people kept thinking it was an actual rave and bringing drugs, so now there isn't one. Also the one at AWA is in such a small space that they have an attendance cap and the length of the line to get in (which only advances when somebody leaves) ensures that you probably aren't getting into it unless you show up two hours early.

It's just a habit for me since every con I've been to that had one had it listed in the schedule as a Rave. So at those cons, that's what it was officially called. But I don't really go outside my area for cons. I guess it's a NY thing.

I'm getting mixed signals --- is that disappointment in your post, Mango?

Hey don't knock it til you try it

Edit- Do you go to AB? Also there was more than just drugs... some shit got stolen and a girl passed out and lots of people would come in for just the dance and cause hell

I went to AB in '11 and '12 but last year it was the same weekend as fanime and it was hella early this year, so I haven't been back in a bit. I was at the raves, though, and yeah, some dudes tried to start a fight with me.

Meh. Already have a rave/music festival playing rave music lined up for this year. That took over my Soundwave budget, because this years lineup was meh

It's the only place I can go with friends with the same interests as me and label to cosplay and buy stuff I usually can not find. Also a great place to meet new people and just have things to talk about in common. And also much easy atmosphere and everyone seems to get along very well.

~It's a good place to make new friends and meet up with old ones.
~Everyone there has something in common with you.
~It's fun dressing up!
~You can buy sweet merch and art.
~Fun events! (Panels, dances, contests, etc.)
~Meeting guests is always nice.
