I really love Fruits Basket. I'd really love to do one of the boys winter uniform ('specially Haru ) but I'd always pass it off as being a "femme" version of the character since I can't get my chest flat. I'll probably end up making one either really late this year or next year.

Oh really? Awesome, maybe we'll run into each other then (in those outfits, don't see how we *can't* XD)

Kagura Green Dress

Does anyone know where I can find or good dress similar to Kaguras or where I can find a pattern to one? I'm currently working on her uniform, her casual, and Tohru's uniform, any help would be loved <3 Sailor K.

Look on page 7 of this thread. I posted the pattern number I used to make Kagura's dress and how to alter it (it was a shirt pattern, originally). There's also some info on how to make the Kyo backpack on the same page.

I didn't use a pattern when I made my Kagura dress. I used the top off of a jumper, and cut 4 rectangles to make up the dress. Then I used 4 more shorter rectangles as inserts into the bottom of the dress. The white sleeves where attaced to the top, and then then green puffy sleeves were long rectangles that were sewn to the top over the white sleeves, and gathered with elastic. It worked well.

I'm cosplaying as Kagura this year at Sakura Con. This will "technically" be my first cosplay, however I'll probably wear my other costume first. I'm not the one making my costume since I lack any and all sewing skills, however I've been working with my Grandmother (the one who is going to sew it) and we've picked out the fabric and patterns we need. She's going to combine three patterns for the dress. All I have to say is, I love my Grandma!

I wanted my group to cosplay as the cast on a whim but most of us already know what we're going to be so it was dumped. I might still force my brother to be Aayame though. And my 50 year old mom wants to be Shigure, is that wierd?

What's the best kind of material to make Haru's coat from? Heavy or light (to make it look right, not neccessarily be completely comfortable). Also, I know he wears chaps but would it be acceptable to wear just black jeans or vinyl pants? I'm making his necklaces and such myself, too.

I've already made and worn my Akito costume last A-Kon and Aki-chan is making another appearance at A-Kon this year! I'm also working on the winter uniform so I can take advantage of the Akito/Yuki style haircut I'll have and be Yuki, too.

I just did Yuki for Sakuracon, but one thing that still troubles me was the color of my wig. Most people I see make his hair really light, but I always thought his hair was darker. I didn't want it to be too light because my friend was Ayame and wanted there to be a difference in the color of our wigs.

Then there's the whole anime/manga thing. Gray in the manga, purple gray in the anime? One guy actually told me he thought my wig should have been more purple, but I've hardly seen any purple-haired Yuki cosplayers. Does anyone else have an opinion on this? o.O

I like both versions, so I'm not picky. But the gray makes more sense. He's a gray rat, and everyone's hair and eye color sort of correspond to their animal form's coloring (think Haru's whit and black hair and greyish-brown eyes). While I think the purple is PRETTIER, the gray makes more sense in the end.

I'm undecided for Ikasucon if my second outfit will be Ritsu or Jin (Yu Yu Hakusho). Both have sort of loud personalities (well...Ritsu has extremes both ways), which is what I want to go for since this is one of the few chances I get to act like a character that's totally not me.

The question comes in on money; I'm not sure how much Kurama's boots (for my first outfit) will cost, so what I do next will depend a lot on that. Ritsu's wig will obviously be more expensive than Jin's by $30 or so, unless I can find a cheap one in the classifieds or something.

Akito: a bottomweight fabric with a nice lining material is the way to go for Haru's coat. When I started the one I made (still not done though . . . damn chii costume got in the way!), that what I used. But mine is designed to be worn as a regular winter coat as well. If you want something that is more con-friendly, then I would say make it a lighter weight material.

And black vinyl pants are a-ok! Chaps are VERY expensive (I used to ride horses so I have a pair, and they cost like $200), and are tricky to make. So go with the easy way. (that's bad advice, but hey I'm lazy XP)

I ride too, and I decided to make chaps versus going out and buying some just for a costume ^^;; I have lots of black chaps but all are for show and have fringe on them so I had no choice U_u...Making them wasn't that hard though, since I just traced around my existing chaps XD

My Haru coat and chaps are made out of vinyl. It was terribly hard to sew (especially since I hand sew everything...can't count how many times I drew blood while sewing this coat last year) and very hot to wear during Otakon. But it looked good ^_^ I always figured Haro was the leather coat type, thats why I chose to do mine out of vinyl. But for summer con wear, might be a good idea to use something a little lighter.

yeah lighter = better. mine was designed to be worn at Genericon (which is in January ><) so warmer was better. I wanted to use Vinyl but it's hard to find where I live. Stupid fabric stores only carrying it around halloween!

Vinyl is prety easy to find for me ^^ I work at a Joanns fabrics and we carry it year round. It was the price that tended to be a little scary. I need so much of it to do the coat, the chaps, the gloves, everything because I'm a little tall and needed at least six yards of fabric to get the lengths I needed. Luckily I get a discount for being an employee ^^;; But if you are ever in need of vinyl, definetly try and hunt down a Joanns store near you.
