Heaven's Feel Emiya Shirou

Hi.

I'm relatively new to the whole cosplay scene. My first time cosplaying as last weekend at Sakura-con and I really enjoyed it so now I want to improve my Shirou costume next year.

I'm looking for some on advice on how to make a certain part of my costume; the blades coming out his skin as you can see in the picture below.

I thought about finding some metal scales, but haven't had any luck so far. Any advice would be appreciated!

Hmm perhaps you could use some sheet plastic or some type of sculpting clay and form it into a cone shape? I wouldn't recommend using metal, or anything else potentially sharp for that matter, because many cons are very particular about weapons/sharp things. Even putting paper mache over a wire base could potentially work. Take a look around your local craft store and see what might be easy for you to work with (you can always find a metallic paint later to cover the base material). Best of luck!

Maybe I'll just forgo the blades...seems really complicated and I wonder if they would look good in a non-metallic material.

Cardboard would probably work if you got the thin stuff to properly shape it into spikes. Then you could use something like this to give it the metallic look.
