Help with dress type

Now that I have mastered (thats a total lie XD) skirts and JSK it is time to move on. (I'm bored )

I love this type of dress. Mainly because It hopefully will make me look like less of a child.

Will someone help me answer my questions about it please?

What is this type of dress called?
I haven't even seen it at a convention to get a better look
Wait how do you get into them????
this has back zipper and those buttons are just for show?

It's $90 so i'll be attempting to sew this but not really sure where to start with a pattern. I haven't seen one that looks like it. I'd like to do short sleeve
I think I can fake the front and sleeves 'm jut lost on the base
[http://www.simplicity.com/p-1968-mis...esses.aspx#t-0 - bu i''s to long needs sleeves and neckline changes. but I think this dress style has princess seames ]

Thank you

The dresses you linked are known as "one pieces" or OP's. The first two links are to a site that stole photos from the website of a well known brand called Mary Magdalene, so I'd recommend not buying from that store at all. In fact, if you can find the pictures on Mary Magdalene's site, they often post close ups of the back and other details. That will help answer some of your questions about construction. The last link is to Bodyline, a well known store that stocks lower end pieces but are fairly good quality for the price.

As for dresses like these, you have two options: you can install an invisible zipper down the back, as shown on the dress in the third link, or hide it in the side seam.

Given your pattern, it'll work with modifications. Use the center pattern, widen the bottom hem of the skirt panels so that the skirt is a bit fuller (3 x your waist), and add sleeves to your pattern. You may have to hack together different patterns or self draft to add the bib detailing to the bodice. I highly recommend sewing a mock-up of the bodice before you make the real dress to work out any kinks introduced by merging patterns.

I have absolutely no intent on buying one I won't get 90$ of wear out of it,but i will be sure to avoid that site in the future thanks . I find even shirts made with those sleeves are too tight and cut off blood flow to my arm.

I think I came across Mary Magdalene images but never the site in my searches. [edit] found it in the link list <3
So, this dress doesn't have a particular name for the style, but rather still falls under a one peice?

I might try with this pattern since I already own it http://www.simplicity.com/p-2251-mis...n-dresses.aspx and use sleeves that angle in and the bib can do the rest. I used it for my first lolita-like dress so it's already kinda sized down. I never realized the hem was 3X the waist, i'll have to measure.

thank you that was a big help ;3
