Erza Scarlet Armorless Pants Help?

Hello, I'm a beginner at cosplaying and was hoping to get some help on how to do Erza Scarlet's red flame pants from Fairy Tail? What materials would I need to create it? I would love to have it commisioned but everyone is booked and my convention is on the first week of June. Help?

I made the costume last year and I gotta tell ya, they were harden than they look. I basically made my own pattern using a part of workout pants I owned. The red material was a heavier fabric (I believe poplin or something along those lines?) with the yellow being a cheap broadcloth and the black lines are bias tape.

You can take a look at my cosplay and I'd be happy to try and answer any questions to the best of my ability!

It's an amazing cosplay! Gotta say I'm jealous. I have absolutely no idea how I would start this!

Firstly: thank you very much! It took a lot longer than I thought it would, but I was happy with how it turned out. :3

Second: You can do it! This was the first time I EVER did pants and on a really crappy machine (and my sewing skills are subpar at best), yet I prevailed! Just take it a step at a time. If you can spare the extra money, perhaps you would look into buying a pattern. Otherwise, you can do what I did and find a pair of pants you already fit into and then either deconstruct them (i.e. rip the seams and use it as a pattern) or just trace them on a big sheet of paper.

If you have any questions, like I said I'd be happy to help if I can!

I have a question about the pants. Did you use an elastic band, zipper, or velcro straps to keep the pants on you?

It's a hakama. Use this pattern.

I used a stiff fabric, so I couldn't use elastic like I wanted to originally or it would look bunched up. I ended up using snaps that were located on my left hip area. If I remember this evening after work, I will try to take a picture of it to illustrate what I did, because I'm sure it sounds a little confusing!

Ok! I'm sorry it took so long to report back! (I had packed away the pants and I didn't remember so much worry was made over nothing!) Here are a couple of images that I hope illustrate how I kept the pants around my waist and not my ankles! If you have any questions, please let me know, I'll try my best to explain!
