Weather Update:

THE PICNIC WILL BE SUNDAY!

Okay everyone, taking into account our inability to predict the weather and our need to make a call so people can plan accordingly, we've decided to use the raindate. The picnic will be held on Sunday! (Sunday! Sunday! SUNDAY!)

(If you want to go on Saturday, no one will stop you, but we won't be there. Please see below as to the reasoning behind our decisions.)

We've been keeping an eye on Environment Canada and the Weather Network, and we're making this decision based on the best data available to us at the moment.

Here are some of the reasons we choose to use the raindate:
- There's a chance of thundershowers on Saturday, while there is no risk of thundershowers on Sunday.
- There is a greater chance of rain on Saturday and a greater chance the rain will last longer and be more severe. It looks like if it rains on Sunday, the showers will be isolated. Also, 5mm of rain is expected Saturday, but less than 1mm of rain is expected Sunday.
- Winds are expected to reach 20km/hr on Saturday, which does not seem to be an issue on Sunday.

The island is *not* a place we want to be during a thunderstorm, as there is little cover. (Plus, they close down Centreville.) Also, heavy rain plus cosplay is generally bad.

Because there is still a chance of showers on Sunday, here are a few things to keep in mind (and this is in no way a complete list):
- Bring umbrellas, ponchos and anything else you may need to keep yourself, your costume and your stuff dry.
- It's a good idea to bring something plastic to lay on the ground in case the ground is wet.
- Be mindful of what costume you decide to wear. If your costume will react badly to water or melt in the rain (like cardboard armour, or paint that hasn't been sealed on something), it's probably a bad idea to wear. Also, make sure you're wearing fabrics that are colour-fast. There's nothing worse than the colours of one part of your costume running and ruining another part. Moreover, be mindful of wigs with lots of hairspray and/or dye in them. Basically, if water + your costume = bad, you may want to re-think wearing it.

We apologize if this ruins your plans! We're sorry. We've yet to develop weather-controlling superpowers. (We've got Tony Stark working on it though!) If it wasn't for the greater chance of rain, the 60% chance of thundershowers and the high winds expected on Saturday, we would have called it differently.

Also contemplating whether or not to bother going on Sunday now, as well ... Doesn't seem too worth it, getting my carefully made costume and prop totes destroyed in the possible rain. Ugh, FUCK.

I'd check the weather Saturday night and see what Sunday holds. If it's gonna rain sunday it's not worth it. It's gonna be gross Sunday regardless as the ground will be soaked.

This is going to sound ridiculously childish, but I hate rain. I know it keeps our crops growin' so we can, y'know, not die of starvation and so on, but I still truly, honestly, seriously hate rain.

Due to the lack of rain throughout NA this year and record high temps... food prices will be going up next year.

So how was the official picnic today, guys ...? Was it pretty crappy due to everything damp/wet, or was it totally awesome ...? I MUST KNOW SO I CAN PROPERLY TORTURE MYSELF FOR NOT GOING IF NEEDED. ;_;

There was a few bouts of drizzle for the first couple hours (field of umbrellas! lol), but eventually it was warm and sunny. :3 Kinda too warm, in fact. Some of us brought out the umbrella's again to hide from the sun! XD

It drizzled for a bit but wow it got so hot and sunny afterwards I felt myself tanning (in which I actually did tan a couple shades darker LOL)
It was really fun regardless! Great picnic once again ♥
