Can anyone tell me why the DT is taking ridiculous deposits for rooms. I was told by the hotel that the AN staff have imposed this new policy on the con goers booking under the con rate, but she was not sure why. No other hotel in the area is doing this to my knowledge.

Anyone you call at the DT for reservations has no clue what the hell is going on because they live thousands of miles away from the DT.

The DT is likely taking it as a damage deposit of some sort.

Yeah they told me it was the AN staff that told them to implement this deposit so I figured someone from AN could clarify as to why they are telling the DT to put this new policy in place.

"Your reservation is guaranteed by a deposit of 154.81 CAD that has been/will be charged to your credit card.

What think that means is that you have the room, and the double tree is now obligated to provide you with room now that they have officially taken your moneys. I think it's way of them making people get their room with them and more difficult to change it as well.

Your credit card number guarantees your room, not your deposit. It's them banking money before the convention. Other people have booked under non-AN rates and have not gotten a deposit warning.

Yeah I never heard of hotels making charges like that before a year in advance as well. Strange.

Never had to pay a pre-deposit for my Rad rooms.

I assume that SOMEONE or SOME PEOPLE made quite a mess of their rooms and they are having enough of it. A lot of crap goes on at the DT. They keep trying new ways to protect themselves such as key carding before you go into the elevator because people were sneaking others into their rooms. Blame it on whomever messed it up.

Just an FYI about the Rad, it seems they're staggering their room block for AN as last year they sold out almost immediately, yet a couple of my friends got a room at the con rate a couple months before the con after compulsively checking for rooms. So, don't panic if you didn't get a room, you've likely got another chance.

Where did you hear that? When I asked them they said they were sold out, period.


I DO know that many people book 2 rooms and ditch one a couple of months before the con when they decide where they will stay - or if they are going at all.
