I'll be super pissed if I show up day of and they don't have a room for me though.

So I don't know about Canada, but I know in the US there's such a thing called Hospitality Law. Depending on state if you are ''guaranteed'' at a hotel, either with deposit or credit card, the hotel has a few obligations. They must find you alternative lodging, though during conventions it's more than likely to be inconvenient :|, if the new lodging is more expensive they must pay for the first night of your stay, and then the difference for the the rest of your stay. (So if your hotel bill is $400 at the original hotel and is $800 at the new one, the hotel has to pay the extra $400)

I'm looking around to see if anything like this is in Ontario, since it seems the hotels don't always tell their guests this is the case, and very few people will actually take the time to read a Hotel's policy (though in any case it doesn't seem the DT even has that listed on their website so I've emailed to see if they'll answer me and will update when/if I get an email)

I've worked in a hotel in Hamilton where we overbooked once for an event, and had to switch everyone to another hotel and we paid any difference in cost. I'm not sure it's exactly policy in Ontario, but I believe any hotel like the DT/Rad/CP who are big names should do this in cases where they overbook.

I think if people aren't told this at AN it's likely due to a large amount of overbookings and the hotel not wanting to shell out that much money to move everyone, even if it was their mistake.

Does anyone know if the "close" Holiday Inn is accepting reservations yet? Last time I called, the gentleman I got on the phone wasn't sure as to when they'd start taking reservations for AN '13. I also can't book online yet as they only take reservations up to 50 weeks away from the date I think?

Does anyone know if the radisson overlooks for anime north? If its happened to you did they give you any compensation?

Overbooks? Not that I know of. Once they are full they are full unless someone cancels. I've always gotten my rooms for my weekend and a room section I requested. Like this year, I requested a room in the front of the hotel, if they had one so I didn't look a the parking lot or some shitty scenery and the staff said' they were alittle low on room choice but could see what they could find and I got one.' Best room I ever had in my 12 years going to the rad. The staff at the rad really try to work with you.

check your confirmation email. I am starting to get curious whether this is a random deposit or they are just not telling people when they book it over the phone.
