Not sure. I reserved online at first and all they had available were king rooms and standard rooms. I took 1 of each because online it said 2 people per room but $15 per additional person per night.
After I reserved and called to ask about that and argued with the guy on the phone who said I couldn't do that (even though the website said I could). He told me I would have to get another standard room since I wasn't allowed to do what I wanted. I argued and he put me on the phone with someone else who gave me 2 quad rooms for cheaper. =)

I got my suite at the Holiday in a few months back for AN 2013 they might not have any rooms left at this point. I know when I got my room there wasn't a super lot left, though some people may have backed out of rooms. When all else fails try Expedia that's how I lucked out with my suite at the Holiday in.

I am furious at the Holiday Inn East (the one near the con).

I booked a room way back in June. I was told no rate was available. When will the rate be available? "I don't know, probably sometime in December," says the lady on the phone line.

Each month, I phone back (sometimes twice a month), asking if any rooms are available at the Anime North rate. The person on the other end says the exact same thing.

So, this morning, I call, and guess what? The lady tells me that the rate has been available since June (a.k.a. when I originally booked the room) and now all the rooms at the AN rate are sold out!

This is totally stupid. Man, I could use so much profanity here to let you all know how angry I am. I booked my room back in *JUNE*, right after the last con, and there was a rate available then, and the incompetent staff somehow messed up. So now I'm pretty much screwed.

I got a room at the Crowne Plaza, but I really don't like that hotel much... small rooms and that steep hill to climb up. No Sheraton, either... had that hotel for this year's AN, and it's way too expensive. I could have gotten the Doubletree, but I hate their room policy (even if it's understandable) and constantly getting stuck in overcrowded elevators. I managed to get a king at the Radisson, this year... hopefully a friend of mine will be willing to share a bed. As for other hotels, I'm not going to waste my time/energy at the con walking (I'm usually completely drained to the point of being sick at the end of AN as is... I was so completely drained this year that I was really sick by the end of Sunday).

Something like this happened to me.
Last year, I booked two hotels (Sandman and The Crowne) for the 2012 Anime North. So, I called a month before the convention to check to see if my rooms were still available (I read some horror stories about rooms being cancelled). Thank the heavens I did, because when I called the Sandman, they said that my room was cancelled and I no longer had it. I was furious, but thankfully, I had the Crowne to go too.

A week later, I get my credit card bill and see that the Sandman had actually charged me for a no show. I was livid. I called them and asked what was going on and they told me that I didn't show up for my room... Which I thought was weird, because they told me it was cancelled???

Anyway, the manager refunded my money so all was good, but just to warn you guys: make sure your room is booked frequently or someone may cancel it on you.

And I have a question; do they take your money right away off your VISA?
Or do you not pay for it till the day you arrive?
And it just holds you a spot?
I have never done this before D=

They typically don't take the money when you book unless specified. It just guarantees the room. You can prepay sometimes but I've never done it because it's ridiculous to expect the money months before the con.

How large is the difference in host from AN rate to regular rate? I thought at the Holiday Inn there was very little difference in price.

they usually (unless stated otherwise) don't take the money off your card until you check OUT of the hotel... sometimes they will take a deposit off at check IN, but its usually just $100 per room or so... but you either then pay $100 less per room at check out, or they refund that $100 once they clean the room and see there was no destruction! XP

They do, I've been checking online and they have some basic rooms left. But the cheapest ones are going fast, and pretty soon there'll probably be none left under $200 per night.
