Help with making Lolita dresses!

Okay, so I have a quick question. Are making your own lolita dresses cheaper than actually going out and buying them? People have told me it is, but with the amount of fabric, lace, buttons, beading, and accessories, it's really hard to believe so
Also, if you know where you can find any fabrics that are like the one this dress is made from: http://www.bodyline.co.jp/bodyline/p...205:40:35%20PM
that'd be awesome too~

It all depends on the fabric and trim you use. Also how you value your time. There is no place I know of that sells any of the prints bodyline has exclusivty on you can find florals and such tho but custom printed and imported fabric is expensive. Lace and trim can be as well. Don't underestamate your time too patern makeing and constrution take time that is valueable too. I tend to save the handmade dresses for designs that I would never find in shops. You won't beable to replecate things for dirt cheep but making your own stuff can be rewarding .

I found it easier, but you'll have a hard time finding those prints if you don't live in Japan. I didn't do sweet lolita stuff, I was more into punk and goth lolita, so it wasn't that difficult to find plaids, stripes, etc and make a lot of my own things.

There are tutorials out there on how to make your own skirt, petticoat, sock toppers, etc if you want to go on a budget.
