Basically... I'm going to make old school Rogue some time this year... *cough* ... and I can never find a body suit in the right color... now, I can find a bodysuit in a shiny white but is it possible to make shiny nylon/lycra look green through paint or dye? If I can dye it would it still be shiny? Is there a paint that doesn't crack or a varnish or something? THanks ;p

well if you dye it it will still be shiney. I am sure that you can paint it, probally w/ an airbrush so it isint globby and will not be plastickey.

Have long sleeved unitards in green and yellow. You can look up painting lycra on the threads, especially popular among Eva cosplayers. Make suuuuure you -wear- the unitard while painting and loosely wrap yourself in ceran wrap or something, so any paint that seeps through doesn't glue the unitard to your skin.

Katie Bair tried to paint a bodysuit for her Shiva (Final Fantasy) costume initially. I don't think it worked out too well because the paint cracked when she peeled herself out of it.

I say find the fabric and make the bodysuit on the color you like. Sewing lycra is evil, but maybe painting it is even worst. I made my own for my S Venus costume and it came out somewhat ok, I guess.

Shiney lycra is usually nylon which takes up dye like nobody's business. It's groovy stuff, you can even dip dye at various temperatures to get shading effects. I did that for my Poison Ivy costume.

Youc an also paint dy on to fabric to get deeper more intense tones, but it does seep more than with paint.

As far as I can remember the suit was made with very difinite panels of colour, so it may be easier to make a body suit from two predyed lycra fabrics. Mving seams around is super easy. You have so much stretch and leeway with cutting, no one should be afraid of it.

I've made at least 5 body suits from the one pattern, putting in darts, moving seams, creating seams... All you need to do is make sure you havea good stretch stitch, good quality thread and proper stretch needles. Most people forget that last part, but they make things so much easier.
