I've noticed that no one has brought this up, so I'm taking the liberty to start a thread. Anime North will still be at the TCC as announced, but the night events, vid rooms and panels will not be at the Doubletree Int'l Hotel as originally announced.

Here's the email that I received from the AN04 Yahoogroups:

Anime North 2004 announces a new hotel addition: the Renaissance
Toronto Airport!

We've just added the Renaissance Toronto Airport Hotel to the
locations we'll be using for Anime North 2004. Located just down the
street from the TCC, it's virtually across the street from the Park
Plaza, only 2-3 minutes walk away.

The Renaissance will now be the official "second" site of AN 2004.
The events that we were planning on having in the Park Plaza (videos,
late-night events) will be moved to the Renaissance. The Park Plaza
will continue to provide guest rooms for AN attendees at the
previously announced con rates, but there will no longer be any
functions held there.

Why have we made this decision? To better serve the needs of our
attendees. The Renaissance, which has just undergone several months
of extensive renovations, is providing us with over 14,000 sq. ft. of
function space (all on one level), nearly 2.5 times what the Park
Plaza could offer. This means bigger and better video rooms, panel
events, and late night activities then we could have managed at the
Park Plaza. We would have arranged this sooner if we could, but the
space only recently became available.

Some of you have already made reservations at the Park Plaza on the
understanding that it would be the site of the off-TCC programming.
We apologize for the nuisance in having to change your reservation to
the Renaissance (if you choose to), but ask you to understand that
this move is significantly better for the convention as a whole, and
will let us better provide the programming you want to see. The two
hotels are only 2-3 minutes walk apart, and the Park Plaza is
offering guest rooms for AN attendees at lower rates. As the
Renaissance has only 240 rooms, you can expect that the Park Plaza
will also fill up with your fellow AN fans.

To sum it up, the Renaissance Toronto Airport will be offering guest
rooms for AN attendees and will be the second programming site beside
the TCC (more details, including shuttle bus service, to follow). The
nearby Park Plaza will be offering guest rooms at convention rates
for AN attendees as well, but there will be no programming on site.
It is our hope that you will agree with us that our new hotel offers
many improvements in amenities and function space, and will be a
benefit to everyone attending Anime North.

Originally the smaller events wern't being held at the Double Tree, they were at the Park Plaza ... which is where I reserved my room.... damn it all. I try to be on the ball this time only to find out I acted too soon... :: grumble grumble ::

Well it's good to know early on before it becomes official but one thing still worries me. What happens if they announce another hotel and they decide to split the functions between the two. You would have to figure out which one has the functions you would attend more of. Another question, will the shuttle buses run from the Renaissance as well or do we have to go to Park Plaza to get on them?

i don't think you need to worry about that. there aren't that many hotels on that strip (minus one more since the Regal is gone now) that can accomodate the events of Anime North.

From the jist of the email that was sent out, they won't be changing the hotels again and all of the "other" events (i.e. the stuff not happening at the TCC) will be in only one hotel.

If I remember correctly, the official post said that the shuttle bus would either a) pick up people from the Renaissance and THEN go and pick up people from the Park Plaze (like a bus route); or b) There would be two seperate busses picking people up from both locations (as in one bus for the Renaissance and one bus for the Park Plaza). I believe that they're still trying to work out the details, so who knows what could happen by then. ^_^
