Full gathered skirt?
Hello!
I'm wondering how I should make a full-ish (I will be using a petticoat underneath) gathered skirt. I'm asking for it in a general sense but I'll be using it for Megpoid Gumi's original costume's white skirt that is worn underneath the dress. ![]() I'm using both art and already made costume as my reference. My first thoughts were to make a circle skirt and gather the top and sew it onto a waistband. Is there a better way? |

You could do the circle skirt method, though it would be easier just to use a big rectangle of fabric and gather that to the right side. This is a personal preference though, because i hate hemming circle skirts

For a fuller skirt, you may want to sew in some Horsehair braid to give the ruffles more oomph. You can find it at any sewing store and they usually sell it by the yard, but yeah I would second a circle skirt.

This. I even own hemmer feet, but would rather do a normal rolled hem than mess with ironing yards of circle skirt hem (granted, this short a skirt isn't yards of anything, but still...)

I also find it easier to do it from a rectangle. The general method I use of determining how long a rectangle to cut is your waist x 3. Works pretty well for me. I find gathering a rectangle is easier than gathering a circle. And...I'm lazy. I don't want to go to more effort than I must if I can do it the easy way and it'll look just as good.
