Need help for tail coat - The Once-Ler

I'm hoping to cosplay the once-ler in about a month and a half. The costume is fairly easy to put together except for the main centre piece, his lime green tail coat.

I am making the gloves myself, the coat is my only trouble. I am willing to buy one, however I haven't bee able to find anything really useful to me. The closest I could come up with was this:

It seems too dark for my purposes, and perhaps a little too straight as well.

I'm considering making it myself. Would anyone happen to have a pattern or an easy how-to (preferably both) in order to help out?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Tailored jackets and 'simple how to' do not go together, sorry. Mens' suit coats are the final exam for many pattern drafting classes, they can be that complex.

That said, what you are looking for is a style defined as a Morning Coat, and there are costume grade patterns available to make their creation a whale of a lot easier. Look at the Butterick historical patterns.

Well, I don't really have a simple way to do it, and my method does waste a quite a bit of material...but it is doable.

If you're looking for a coat a bit like this, basically what I did was take a costume pattern for a long, ankle-length coat, mock it up, and had my brother wear it while I literally trimmed off the excess on the sides to get the look I wanted. I'd say find one that has the collar you want already, which will make things incredibly easier.

Make sure the coat pattern you need has the split up the back - I made the mistake of having to place my own, and it lead to some bad times.
