Where do you buy spandex?

Hi!

At Necronomicon03 (in tampa) I was tlaking to this one guy and he mentioned a website that sold spandex and instructions etc. But when I checked the website out (spandexcity.com..?) didn't exist. Soooo....

Is it possible to buy spandex/stretchy material over the interenet? ANd websites in particular? And finally, how difficult is it to sew spandex? My character (liink posted below)
http://splash.pocketnes.org/screens/gallery/impa.jpg
(its the chick on the left) has a costume that I think spandex would suit....at least for most parts.
I'm ready to tear my hair out over this, help me!

spandexhouse.com, I beleive. They're really great...they'll send you free samples and everything. Let me check that, though...I might have the wrong address.

Ah, yes, that is the place. www.spandexhouse.com

As for suggestions....spandex looks like it would work fine for the outfit. As far as I've worked with it before...it sews pretty much like regular fabric, but my machine is really all purpose. I've heard you have to do something to the tension.....*sighs* Not enough experience in that area, unfortunately.
Her midsection looks kind of armored, though. ^^

I wrote an article on stretch sewing a while ago. In my experience, it's not tough, but some people's machines don't seem to like stretch fabric. *remembers Dani's unfortunate thread about Lycra problems*

http://www.designerfabrics.to/ also has a huge selection of spandex and stretch pleathers

unfortunately their website doesn't do their selection justice.

Even though you'd have to heat-peel off the logos, a couple friends of mine are using UnderArmour(www.underarmour.com)for their spandex-bearing costumes as of late. Hope it helps... good luck!

Spandexhouse is pretty good, but I hate ordering from them because I had to talk to about 5 different (possibly the same...?) people before making any progress. And it was long distance.

www.lycrahouse.com is another good one. They have pretty much the same selection as spandexhouse, they also mail out free samples, you talk to one person when you order, and you get your stuff INCREDIBLY fast. (Like, next day fast, sometimes)

As for instructions for sewing it... buy a stretch pattern (a cheap one) and follow it at least once before messing around. That's made me the spandex goddess I am today. ^^;

ok.. so i ordered a swtach of nude cotton lycra for a body suit from spandex house.. and it's rather dark for my skin tone (i'm very pale) . does anyone know if there's anyways of lightening it, or of a place that has lighter flesh tones. i've emailed lycra house and have not gotten any responce as of yet.

From what I hear from my friend, Lycrahouse has a bunch of flesh colored fabric... not sure if it's the cotton lycra you need, because I don't have them... but among her list of colors she had "Ali-pasty" so there's gotta be something in there pretty light.

Give Lycrahouse a call. They act much faster that way.
